Came across this page today many years later in a sort of roundabout way. I knew of the sad news at the time but seeing my former classmates' and teachers' posts here brought tears to my eyes. Mrs. Knipel was a great teacher and I remember kindly working with me to get into the select choir group. I haven't stopped playing and making music. Thank you for touching our hearts and making an impact on us. You are missed.

It was a sweet time having you teach me in 6th & 8th grade. As well as working for 3 years in a row on the AM Prom Committee. Definitely fun when we ate Taco Bell as well since Sarah´s prom date was on Cinco de Mayo
But when all is said and done, you were indeed an Angel of music to me and everyone else around us. Thank you for the music, Mrs. Knipel. I miss you

I was randomly thinking of 6th grade music class with Ms Knipel in the fall of 1997 - she had put on a Toyota commercial with that silly song "Da Da Da" by Trio so we could keep time to it. I remember around this time of year, Halloween, she´d put in funny contact lenses like swirlies. What a bright ray of sunshine - it was devastating to look her up and find she has been gone, and lost so young. My condolences to her family, and may her memory be a blessing to the many, many lives she touched.

I went to elementary school at Bywood in Upper Darby and my memory of Mrs Knipel is one of my oldest and most fun memories. Unless my aging mind is mistaken I believe she was first Miss Miller because I recall her getting married and we had to learn a new name...lol! She was young and fun and taught us the coolest songs like those by Elton John. She taught guitar to many of her students after school and we all loved her. That said, we were still little kids and she was still a young teacher and I remember some of the bad boys in the class upset her and she cried. A couple of us stayed with her and comforted her and told her how much we loved her as a teacher and I remember her feeling better after that. She was a REAL friend to us, not just a grownup who didn´t care. She taught us Amish terms like "outen the light" (again unless my 56 year old mind is mixing that up!).
I cannot tell you how fond we were of our young, cool, beautiful, talented teacher except to say that even all these years later I can still remember her vividly and that I am a better person for all she taught me. I was sad to find out about her death at such a young age and I will always remember her love for her students. I know that she is now with the Lord and that she is free of any pain. I wish her husband and family peace and happiness and I hope that they know how many people´s lives she touched and how many people loved her. Including my only photos of Mrs Knipel....One is very poor and the other from the back, but she was doing what she loved....teaching us children music. Guessing this was around 1975 or 1976.

Isaiah 57:1-2
The righteous perish,
and no one takes it to heart;
the devout are taken away,
and no one understands
that the righteous are taken away
to be spared from evil.
Those who walk uprightly
enter into peace;
they find rest as they lie in death.
Many good memories from Sue & Dan in my childhood growing up in Grace Chapel. I'm praying for your family & I hope you find rest & peace in knowing that Sue is happier than ever now in the presence of our Lord.

As a first-year teacher at Springton Lake, Sue's bright smile and wonderful warmth was what helped to make it a joy to come to work every day. She was a bright light in this dark world, and she will be dearly missed. It is hard to believe she was taken from us so soon, but as others have mentioned, Heaven has received a wonderful saint into their midst. And we who are in Christ shall see her again. To Dan, Amanda, Katie, Carrie, Sarah and Justin: Know that you are in my prayers and the prayers of many others. May the Lord Himself be your light in this dark hour (Psalm 27:1). With much love,

We share wonderful memories at Grace Chaple. May The Lord comfort you Dan and all her family. She will be greatly missed. Joe & Maggie Drygas.

I also would like to share how she had impacted me with having Donuts and Devos at SL for the students. It was and is the best thing that could have been incorporated. My son enjoyed the spiritual time spent with Mrs. Knipel and he was always eager to help her in the mornings to carry all the packages for her early in the mornings. Thank you Mrs. Knipel for having such a wonderful program for the students that like to get together to share prayers and to start their mornings with great blessings. God bless you.

Thoughts and prayers with the whole Knipel family at this sad time. I remember when I was in Mrs. Knipel's class on Parents Day, coming home and saying to my son, "Oh my Gosh, what an awesome music class" A couple weeks later, I had to ask Mrs. Knipel something so I relayed how much fun I had watching her class and told her I wish I had a music class like that when I was a kid. I got the kindest and most enthusiastic email back telling me to come in and be part of their class any day I wanted, others singers were always welcome! What an amazing woman! She will be missed by my son and by the whole community. Rose Tree Media was so lucky to have had her!

Jen and I were thinking last night about when we met the Dan and Sue (35-40 years ago). We worked together in Sunbeams (3 and 4 year old children) at church. I had all their kids in Sunday School, Sue hosted Jen's wedding Shower, etc. Sue was a light on a hill. Always positive, always helpful, and always willing to give of herself. With tears I offer Dan our sympathies. Sue got to heaven first, she did like to win. I look forward to seeing her again some day. We loved you Sue.

Sue was a shining example of the power of a fantastic teacher, she loved and helped everyone. Her ability to help Springton Lake students appreciate a love of music, any type of music, was truly a gift. Sue always shared that gift. My dear friend, Sue, will forever be a reminder of how we should all live our lives - with love for all, with an enthusiasm for all experiences, with an infectious joy and ready smile. She is our role model as a wife, mother, friend, and teacher. With each tear right now, there is a smile arising from her antics and pure love of life. How very much she will be missed - and how very blessed I was to have shared a part of her life and that of the family that she and Dan have raised together.

Susie and I are first cousins. We spent a lot of time at each others houses as small children. We were always playing house and at a very young age, her father got her a small accordian. I was a piano student, but still enjoyed her teaching her bigger cousin to play her instrument. I have many fond memories of the hours we spent together as young girls. All the kind words and testiments that I have read here are no surprise. She was a talented student, a devoted mother and wife, a hard working teacher and simply cared about everyone with whom she had contact with. Fly with the angels, Sue, there are many people that are waiting for you to lead their chorus in heaven.

I am so sad to hear of Mrs. Knipel's passing. She was a lovely woman. Her love of music and life was always evident. I'm so glad that my family got to know Mrs. Knipel through the music program at Springton Lake. She was always smiling. It was always such a joy to run into her when I visited the school. I just read a Teacher Spotlight article written about Mrs. Knipel. As a teacher you were Alan's mentor when he started at Springton Lake all those years ago and up until the end, you supported him and made him the teacher he is today. As a wife, you guided us through the start of marriage and helped us juggle our careers and new life as husband and wife. Mrs. Knipel,
you were one of the most amazing teachers I've ever had. It's rare that you have a teacher that treats all of their students like their own children. You had such a love for you students and for the music you taught. You always made me excited and happy to be in chorus. Even when I was in high school you would look at me like I was a child of yours that was all grown up . I will always remember you teaching me the hand bells or when the choir would sing a song well you would cry or get choked up. We are all going to miss you so much. We love you. Rest in Peace.
