Virginia Carter Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

CARTER, Virginia VIRGINIA MILNER CARTER Virginia Milner Carter died peacefully at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, Georgia on June 18, 2010. Virginia was born, Virginia Isabel Milner, in Atlanta, Georgia on July 1, 1919, daughter of Willis Justus Milner, Jr. & Virginia Amanda Cohen Milner. She graduated Agnes Scott College in 1940, with a major in chemistry, where she competed as a world-class swimmer and captain of the basketball team. She also held the office of class president. A proud patriot, Virginia served in the U.S. Navy as an officer during World War II and was stationed in New York City and Saint Simons, Georgia. Inspired by her father, Virginia had a long and successful career in financial services, and was a founding member of A.L. Williams, now Primerica Financial Services, where her primary focus was mentoring others to become successful business leaders. Despite some of the most difficult challenges life can offer, Virginia continued to face each day with the energy and enthusiasm that her Christian faith provided. Her humor, grace, and tremendous heart, will be cherished by a wide circle of family and friends. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Virginia Seixas Carter and husband, John Zoranovich; by her son, Robert Milner Carter; and by her grandchildren - Virginia Milner Morgan and husband, David; Anna Richards Consola; and Sarah Lucille Consola. Helen Sexton, formally of Atlanta, a valued member of the Carter household for many years, also survives Mrs. Carter. Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Alverson Carter, by her son, Alverson Carter, Jr., her daughter, Ida Richards (Rickie) Carter; and also by her brothers, Willis J. Milner, III, Seixas G. Milner, and Gene W. Milner. Virginia is survived by her sister, Augusta Milner Otey and husband, David, and by her brothers' wives: Jean Sullivan Milner, Betty Rayfield Milner, and Joyce (Milner) Sterling. Visitation will be held at H.M. Patterson & Son, Spring Hill, 1020 Spring Street NW, Atlanta on Thursday, the twenty-fourth day of June from six until nine in the evening. Her Funeral will be held in the sanctuary at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, 3434 Roswell Rd. NW, Atlanta, GA 30305, on Friday, the twenty-fifth day of June at eleven o'clock in the morning. A visitation will be held in the Williams Center at Peachtree Presbyterian one hour prior to the start of the service. Burial will follow at the family cemetery in Hoschton, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials in Virginia's name to: Agnes Scott College, 141 E. College Ave, Decatur GA, 30030; Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church Building Fund, PO Box 7280 Chestnut Mountain, GA 30502; Haggia Institute for World Ministry, P.O. Box 13, Atlanta, GA. 30370.

Dear Family of Virginia Carter -
Ginny is my hero...the epitome of the All American woman!!! I shall always cherish and carry in my heart forever the brief but special conversations and photos with her over the years at the many Primerica events in particular Women in Primerica. Her grace, humor, tremendous heart and great dedication to Primerica touched thousands of lives. Her legacy will continue forever here on earth as we pick up the torch. The kingdom of heaven is rejoicing at her homecoming, but so many lives are better because she was here. God Bless all of you.....With Appreciation and Gratitude

Dear Milner & Ginny,
Jeanne & I send our warm best wishes to you both, and our salute to your mom. I'm sure you can remember how Virginia helped me start my 2nd base shop in Atlanta, taking me under her wing as it were, and helping me become an RVP in Acapulco. She let me office with her until I got my feet on the ground, and even went to Washington DC to personally "vouch" for me in order to get my special approval for a securities license. I counted her as one of my dear friends, and I was sorry to hear she's now gone. She lived a full and wonderful life, and touched the lives of so many in such a gracious and wonderful way. You are both blessed to have had her as your mother. Fondly, Major & Jeanne Meek, Tulsa, Oklahoma

Milner, as she was called at Agnes Scort, was a leader in athletics and a strong and cheerful personality in our class. She attended our 70th reunion in April 2010. She was ever a ta;l and smailing [resence on campus, president of Athletic Association and a good leader in its enterprises. As an alumna, she gave gfenerously to the College. and hosted class gatherings at her house in Atlanta. We shall miss her sorely..

May she rest in peace.

It was always a delight to see her bounding up onto the stage to inspire us in her simple and suitable way!

"...and we get paid just as well as the men" she would elucidate with a bright gleam in her eyes.

What a compelling leader.
