Wayne Bridges Obituary

Family-Placed Death Notice

Wayne Brian Bridges was welcomed into this world with great love and profound joy on the morning of September 25, 1954, in Mount Vernon, New York by his proud parents Mary Christine and the late Otha Paris Bridges, and big brothers, Arthur, Vaughn and David. He returned to the loving arms of God during the early morning hours of February 25, 2007. As the handsome and personable youngest son in a family of four boys, Wayne grew up as the happy and cherished "baby" of the family. He accepted Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior of his life at an early age. Wayne was baptized and became a member of the Grace Baptist Church of Mount Vernon, New York under the pastorate of the Reverend Samuel Austin. Wayne attended Nathan Hale Elementary School. He later went on to also successfully graduate from Washington Junior High School and Mount Vernon High School, both located in Mount Vernon, New York. His older brother, David advised Wayne to attend the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois. Upon his graduation from high school, he took this advice to heart and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administrtion from the University of Illinois in 1978. Wayne's major profession was as a businessman and marketing manager for DTP, Inc. He was well suited for and effective in his chosen occupation not only because of his business acumen; but also because he possessed a cheerful, friendly, and outgoing personality. It was often said of Wayne that he "never met a stranger." His famous words will always be remembered as: quoted by his son Chris, "Keep your head, your brain is in it"; also, quoted from Chris and his friends and business associates with respect to Chris's style, talent, and skills, "You know he gets that from me!" During Wayne's time of struggle, he weathered the storms of the sea of declining health. with the help of God's grace, his loyal family's love, and his wife Jo-Ann's unflagging devotion. He often withstood this life's most bitter adversity. But now he has come into the eternal rest and safe harbor of God's glorious reward after living a life filled with courage, faith, hope, love in the face of illness and goodwill toward all people. Wayne will be forever missed and never forgotten by his family including: his mother, Mary Christine Bridges; his loving wife, Jo-Ann Bridges and her children, Malaya Isaacs, Myles Garret, and Natalie Woods who Wayne often said "was the daughter I never had"; his loving son, Christopher Brian Bridges, and Chris' mother, Roberta Shields, and granddaughter, Karma Christine Bridges and Karma's mother, Christine St. Germaine White; grandchildren Gabriel, Holly, Kayla and Taylor Cosby, Cherokee and Jewel Isaac, and Kennedy Garret; and his brothers and their wives, Arthur and Carolyn Bridges, Vaughn and Delester Bridges, and David and Yvonne Bridges; his Aunt Viola Wilson, his Aunt Marion Bridges, and host of additional family and friends. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Gus Thornhill's Funeral Home in East Point, Georgia. Funeral services were held at Enon Church and Ministries in College Park, Georgia.

I would like to express my deepest smpathy and condolences to The Bridges Family. I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Bridges, but I heard a lot of kind words from my mother (Ada Parks) that was a patient with Mr. Bridges at the dialysis clinic. I would say that Mr Bridges had such a kind and free-hearted spirit. I am so grateful of the autographed items he gave my kids of Chris; a smile on their face can't be forgotten. May God bless and continue to strengthen the family in this time of sorrow.

Ada Parks

March 3, 2007

Sending my deepest sympathy to the entire Bridges Family. I had the pleasure of meeting Wayne at the College Park Dialysis Clinic, where we both were patients. He had such an angelic spirit about him. He talked so much about his family and I shared about mine. Despite his health condition, he always had a smile on his face. We shared a lot of laughter together. Always had a kind word for you. My prayers are with you as the LORD continue to strengthen the family in this time of sorrow.

To The Bridges Family,
We are deeply sad to hear of Wayne's passing. We were neighbors on Spicewood Ct,C.P. several years ago. Wayne would occasionally visit our home and he and my husband, Larry, often laughed and talked about their kids, entertainment and sports. They last spoke at one of the Atlanta Braves games. He will truly be missed.
God Bless You.

Joann, Chris and the Bridges Family, words cannot express my heartfelt sympathy for your grief at this time. Trust in the Lord, and he will carry you through this. Wayne was one of the most fun-loving people we've ever met. He never met a stranger. He loved all of us and we loved him. I will miss his laugh, the funny way he had of calling and saying "whatzz-up" as only Wayne could say it! He is not gone, but has gone on to a better place. Our dear friend will be sorely missed, but we have such wonderful memories to sustain us.....until we meet again. God bless you all.

February 28, 2007

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

To The Bridges Family:

Our deepest condolences and prayers are with you during this hard time. Our father/grandfather was in the hospital room right across from Mr. Bridges, and we all saw the love this family has, as there was not a day that went by without family by his side. We felt an unspoken connection with your family, as we were in the same situation. Please know that he is in a better place, and you will see him again one day. Keep close during this hard time, and do not be afraid to ask for help. Our thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you as you take this day by day. Remember, this too shall pass.

With the passing of my mother 13 years ago I learned that love is stronger than death even though it can't stop death from happening, but no matter how hard death tries it can't separate people from love. It can't take away our memories either. I encounter my mother everyday in the lives of others. In the end, life, love, family, and friends are stronger than death.
