PROCTOR, William LT COL. (RET.) WILLIAM (BILL) MARTIN PROCTOR Lt Col. (Ret.) William (Bill) Martin Proctor of Lithia Springs passed away January 12, 2011, at the age of 92. He was born July 31, 1918, in Clarksville, TX to Martin Luther and Bessie Proctor. Bill joined the U.S. Army in 1940, served in Europe during WWII, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star and one of his most prized awards, The Combat Infantrymanís Badge. After serving in Europe and Southeast Asia, Bill returned to the States and lived in Colorado Springs, CO until his retirement from the military in 1966. He then worked in Civil Service at Ent AFB, Colorado Springs, and transferred to Ft. McPherson, GA where he retired in 1984. William was married to Stella Gorowski of Pe Ell, WA from 1942 until her death in 1972. They had two children, Mary Ann and William S. Proctor. In 1973 Colonel Proctor married Gwendolyn Ensign Abrahams of Colorado Springs and blended her five children into his family. Bill loved people and enjoyed traveling in his RV with Gwen to the North Georgia mountains and different parts of the country to visit friends and family. More recently, his days included yard work, a trip to Ace Hardware, and good conversation over a plate of doughnuts and a cup of strong (very strong) coffee. Along with his first wife, Stevie, William was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and one step-daughter, Nancy Abrahams Berardino. He is survived by his wife Gwen, children Mary Anne McBride (Bruce) of Apple Valley, CA, William Proctor (Lynne) of Colorado Springs, Co, Janice Boldt (Richard) of Douglasville, GA, Carol Hopkins of Lithia Springs, GA, John Abrahams (Teresa) of Warren, OH, Robert Abrahams (Kathy) of Mission Viejo, CA, 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and many friends. Military burial will be at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. Arrangements by SouthCare Cremation Society and Memorial Centers in Marietta. (770) 420-5557
