Thane Hascall Obituary
Visitation will be Aug. 23 from 5-7 p.m. with Rosary to follow, at Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Atlantic. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Atlantic. In lieu of flowers when you run into someone who knew Thane, share a good story or memory of him. There are many.

I first met Thane when I was in my first year of teaching in Kansas City, Missouri. I was also the speech & debate coach at my school, as Thane was at Atlantic HS. I met him when I brought my team to a tournament in Des Moines. Thane was very gracious to the newbie out-of-stater, which I appreciated. The following year he brought his Atlantic team to my school for a tournament we hosted. A quarter of a century down the road fate brought me to Atlantic to teach and coach at Thane's school, and while I was there I coached his grandson to the State tournament in debate, where he reached the elimination rounds. I am saddened to hear of Thane's passing. He was a good man, a great teacher, and an inspiration to me personally. Requiescat in pace, sir.
