David Marson Obituary

David Marson
11/22/1920 - 07/17/2015

Long-time local businessman David Marson passed away at home in Colfax on July 17, 2015. He was 94 years old. He was with his family at the time of death.
Dave was born in Colfax on December 22, 1920, the only child of recent Italian immigrants Amadeo and Luigia Marson. He was raised in town and on the family ranch on Placer Hills Road. He attended Weimar Hills Elementary School. His parents wanted him to have a trade so he took a year off from school to attend barber college in Sacramento. By the time he graduated from Placer High School, Dave was a journeyman barber. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, spending most of his tour in England. Upon discharge Dave returned to Colfax where he met Margaret Emery. They married in 1946. They remained in Colfax for a year or two before moving to Sacramento where Dave was in the barber business. They returned to the Colfax area in the early 1950's. He and Marge owned and operated the D & M Market in downtown Colfax. In 1965 the market was moved to a new, larger building that they designed and had built. They retired from the grocery business in 1979. They spent their retirement years traveling and taking care of their large garden. They crisscrossed the United States in their RV and made several trips abroad. For many years they spent May and November at Pismo Beach. Dave was a hard-working man who enjoyed his family, cars, Sunday drives, good wine and baseball.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, and his three children; Barry (Claudia) Marson of Lodi, Michele (Suzanne) Marson of Sacramento and Tami (Jeff) Dalley of San Luis Obispo. He is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Colfax. Committal will follow at Colfax Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send a contribution to the charity of your choice.

I remember running into the D& M Market on Main St when I was a kid. I would carefully choose my Penny candy. This is such a sad reminder that Colfax is losing the wonderful generation of people that gave Colfax life. Dave will always be in my memories as a kind man. He and Marge have a permanent special place in my heart. May he rest in peace and his family find comfort in memories of happier times.
