Florence Dill Obituary

Florence M. Dill left us for a better place, passing peacefully in her sleep on November 29, 2007.
She was born January 27, 1922 in Sioux City, Iowa and is survived by sister Joyce Straub of Santa Rosa, Calif., daughter Shirley Herold of Saratoga, Calif., son Gary Dill of Tucson, Ariz., grandchildren Janice Dill of Siloam Springs, Ark., Colleen Herold of Maple Valley, Wash., Keith Herold of Seattle, Wash., Tom Fitzgerald of Truckee, Calif. and six great-grandchildren.
Florence taught elementary school in San Mateo, Calif. for 25 years. At retirement, she moved to Lake of the Pines, Auburn, Calif. There, she served one term on the LOP Board of Directors, was active as a member of the Firebelles, supporting the volunteer fire department, and was Captain of the LOP Lady Niners Golf group. She was also active at Sierra Pines United Methodist Church for many years.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Sierra Pines United Methodist Church, 22559 W. Hacienda Drive, Grass Valley CA 95949.

I was a student of Mrs. Dill's 6th grade class at Knolls School in San Mateo in 1960. She was always so encouraging and I have many fond memories. I especially loved participating in her spelling bees. She always encouraged us and brought out the best in us. I am still good friends with another one of her students, Jean Grabowski.
