Jason Rhoades Obituary

Jason Fayette Rhoades was born on July 9, 1965 in Roseville, CA. He is survived by his wife Rachel and daughter Rubi, his parents, Jack and Jackie Rhoades, his two brothers Greg (Debbie) and Matt, his nephews Dustin and Clayton Rhoades and his nieces Cassandra, Autumn and Ava Rhoades.
He graduated from Auburn Placer High School in 1983 where he excelled in Art and won many awards and scholarships. Jason was a 10-year member of 4H where he learned leadership skills that helped him become the successful adult that everyone loved. He enjoyed life, people, animals and traveling the world with his art. Every piece was a bit crazier than the one before.
Jason graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1988 where he met his wife. After a brief time living and working in New York he attended UCLA and graduated with an MFA in 1993. That year he had his first solo show in New York and went on to do many exhibitions throughout the world. His last projects included an exhibition at Centrode Arte Contemporaneo de Malaga in Spain and a major project only recently completed in Los Angeles that was scheduled to be exhibited in New York this fall.
Jason was an incredibly prolific, talented and seminal artist who accomplished much in his short life. He will be dearly missed by us all.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at 11:00 am, Lassila Funeral Chapels, 551 Grass Valley Highway, Auburn, CA 95603. Donations may be made to:

Jason was one of my all time favorite students - he was always special to me personally. - unusually wise, unusually talented, and unusually respectful. Never thanked him for that, wish I had. Learning that his career took off, that his talent was recognized gave me great pleasure. We are all so proud of you, Jason. Rest in peace.

Jason was always more upbeat than most artists. He could find treasure in dumpsters or alleys which really impressed me. I'm sorry I won't be able to see what he comes up with next.
