Lucille Mizell
8/27/1914 - 1/25/2011
A Celebration of Life for Lucille Mizell, 96, will be held Monday, March 7, 2011 at 1 p.m. in Cochrane's Chapel of the Roses, 103 Lincoln St, Roseville with interment at Roseville District Cemetery immediately following. Lucille died January 25, 2011 at Emeritus at Roseville Gardens where she had lived since October 2009.
Born Lucia Tescari to Maddalena (Cogo) and Giovanni Battista Tescari, on August 27, 1914 in Lusiana, Italy, she and her older sister Mary immigrated with their parents to the United States in 1919, settling in Kemmerer, Wyo. She also had two brothers, Joe and Dominic Tescari. Lucille graduated from Kemmerer High School in 1934.
She married Greeley Richard Mizell on April 25, 1939 and moved to Nevada City. While there, they had a son Robert and a daughter Mary Lee. Sadly, Robert died in an accidental drowning in May 1943. Following the birth of Mary Lee in November, they returned to Roseville where Dick began building the first of two houses they would call home. The second was completed a year after their daughter Robyn was born and it was here that they lived for the rest of his life and up to when Lucille moved into the Gardens. Dick died in December 1987.
Lucille was an active member of the Roseville Carpenters Auxiliary; the Sisterhood of the United Ancient Order of Druids; and Sons and Daughters of Italy. She served as president of the Vernon St School PTA and as a Camp Fire Girls leader. But her true passion was for her flowers and fruit trees. She treasured working in her gardens where she grew beautiful roses, camellias, gardenias and fuchsias; her flower beds were filled with marigolds, primroses, dahlias, asters and stately glads; and her dining room table at Thanksgiving always featured fragrant fresh-picked mums. Her fig, walnut, and variety of stone fruit trees along with her grape arbor were amazing. Family, friends and teachers richly benefited from Lucille's generous green thumb.
She was preceded in death by her husband and son, her parents and siblings. She is survived by Mary Lee Mizell, Roseville; Robyn (Randy) Wimmer, Fargo, N.D.; grandsons Josh (Kelly) Wimmer, Madison, Wis., and Gabe Wimmer, Minneapolis. She is also survived by her nieces Gloria (Tony) Blotti, Newport Beach; Connie Aimo, Glendale, Ariz.; and Cathy Aimo, Sacramento; her nephew and Godson, John (Nel) Aimo, Napa; and many other nieces and nephews in California and throughout the Midwest.
Lucille's daughters wish to acknowledge the many kindnesses and thoughtful attention their mother received while living at the Gardens as well as the exceptional care in her last days provided by the compassionate caregivers of Vitas Hospice. Their dedication and professionalism were greatly appreciated. Memorials may be given to Vitas Hospice (3841 N Freeway Blvd Ste 210, Sacramento 95834) or to a charity of your choice.
