Michael Sponsler Obituary

Michael R. Sponsler
2/19/1948 - 3/15/2014


Michael R. Sponsler age 66, succumbed to his battle with weakened lungs due to prior lung cancer. He passed peacefully at Marshall Hospital in Placerville surrounded by his family on March 15, 2014.
Michael and wife Stephanie were former residents of Placer County until moving to Placerville in 1999. Michael proudly served in the US Army and was a Vietnam Veteran (1969) with the 1st Cavalry Airborne Division. Following his military service he was an aircraft electrician at McClellan AFB until he retired.
Michael's passions were hunting, fishing, camping, baseball, the outdoors, and spending time with his family and friends. His greatest love was his wife and children. Michael attended Foothill High School and was a pitcher for the school's baseball team; he was known and remembered for his great arm and pitching. He was also known as "The Sponze" as he cruised around on his motorcycle and later in his much loved GTO.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Joyce Sponsler, his beloved wife Stephanie Sponsler, May 2012, and his nephew Clayton Trulin, May 2011.
Michael leaves behind his children; daughter, Trista (Hudson) Feingold, and son-in-law Heath of Arizona; Sons, Shane Sponsler of Washington, and Adam Sponsler, daughter-in-law Shanta, grandson Cody age 14, and granddaughter Autumn age 12, residing in Nevada. Sister, Pamela McBride, and husband Ron of Auburn, and stepmother Beverly Sponsler of Auburn.
Michael will be greatly missed, but remembered by all of his friends and family. Michael will be put to rest in a private family service at the New Auburn Cemetery, date to be determined.

Remembered Sponze while driving the other day. He was quite a funny guy. Sorry you folks lost him young.
