LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Antoinette Luisi Caruana, 87, formerly of Boone, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, in Little Rock, Ark.
Mrs. Caruana was the widow of Joseph Salvatore Caruana, also formerly of Boone. She was a professional seamstress and had lived in Florida and Boone since 1946. She was a devoted wife and mother, active in veterans organizations and in her church. Mrs. Caruana was well-known for the sewing and knitting she presented to her family and friends on special occasions. Her life was spent in doing for others in the spirit of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Caruana was born in Auburn. She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Rose Luisi Sciria, Lawrence Luisi, Theresa Luisi, Angelica Luisi Busco, Carmel Luisi Criazzo, Angela Luisi and Annemarie Luisi Simmons. Another brother, Dr. August Luisi, passed away the same day, Feb. 18, in Wisconsin. Mrs. Caruana is survived by a daughter, Dr. Mary Anne Caruana Fleagel and son-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Edward E. Fleagle; two grandchildren, Christopher Fleagle and Lindsey Fleagle; and two great-grandchildren; her brother, Nick Luisi; and by nieces and nephews, Paul Sciria, Larry Luisi, Mary Beth Luisi, Carole Burch, Angela Criazzo, James Criazzo Jr., Sandra Simmons, Susan Hare, Kathy Simmons, Bernard Simmons, Michael Simmons, Lisa Rotko, Paul Luisi, Michael Luisi, Francine Alavi, Marcia Strunin, Tina Barrett, Anita Colvin, James Luisi, Rita Jacobs, Jerry Luisi and Jack Luisi.
The memorial service for Mrs. Caruana was March 22, at First Presbyterian Church in Boone, N.C. She is buried at Mount Lawn Cemetery in Boone.
The family suggests that instead of flowers, memorials be sent to Outreach North America, 1 Cleveland Street, Greenville, SC 29601.
