Bernice Vorreuter Obituary

Bernice "Jo" Vorreuter

SENECA FALLS - Bernice "Jo" Vorreuter, 84, and longtime resident of Seneca Falls, passed on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at Geneva General Hospital. In keeping with Jo's wishes, a private Celebration of Life will be held at her families' convenience. Donations in memory may be directed to a charity of one's choice.

Jo was born in Auburn, NY, daughter of the late Howard "Cy" and Marinette (Parks) Townsend. She graduated from West High School in Auburn and continued her education at Empire College. On August 16, 1969, she married Jon Vorreuter, and the couple moved to Seneca Falls not long after.

Jo had worked for Finger Lakes DDSO for a total of 28 years. She started as a volunteer coordinator and worked her way up to and retired as a supervisor. She also briefly worked at Goulds Pumps and Lochland School in Geneva.

Whether it was travelling, camping, painting, crafting, or any other interest Jo enjoyed, she always loved to do it with her family and close friends. She wasn't just a mother to her own children, but to many a second mom, as her home and her heart were always open to whoever needed it.

Jo is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jon; children, David (Pamela) Madziarz, Susan (Paul) Held, Michael (Kimberly) Madziarz, Mary Jo (Jeffery) Barbay, Jon Vorreuter Jr.; grandchildren, Jason, Kristy Lynn, Nora, Daniel, Sara, Zachary, Emily, Britney, Erica, Sophia, Jack, Rocco; great-grandchildren, Ava Lynn, Amelia, Michael, Asher; extended family and friends.

David, Susan, Michael, Mary Jo and Jon, my sincere condolences to you all regarding the passing of your Mom. I was lucky enough to talk to your Mom a couple of years ago after a very long time.Growing up around the corner I would sometimes be over to the house playing.

My sincere condolences to Jo's family. I had come to know Jo through my working at the DDSO. At one time I was working as a cleaner in the building that she had and we became fast friends for sure. When the DDSO was getting ready to shut down the old developmental center down, I then switched positions and then became a developmental aide trainee and Jo was my first training supervisor. Through her guidance and support I did work in many group homes over the years and I am so very thankful that she was always there to give me encouragement and support.
May the Lord of Comfort give the family all peace and joy through this very difficult time. REST IN PEACE JO, YOUR IN GOD'S PRECIOUS ARMS NOW.
