Carol Jean Bell

MORAVIA - Carol Jean Bell (nee Stiles), 87, of Moravia, NY, passed away on March 26, 2024. She was born on February 7, 1937, in Cortland, NY. Lived in McLean and Dryden, NY over 25 years and enjoyed summers at Indian Cove, Moravia.
Carol was a proud and committed member of the Fire Department and Auxiliary at all levels - local, central, and state. She was a life member of the McLean and Moravia Fire Departments. In 1979 the McLean Auxiliary nominated Carol as a NY State Representative and she rose to President of NY State Firemen's Auxiliary in 1983.
Carol was an Elementary Teacher at Dryden and Freeville Schools. She graduated from Dryden High School and received her Masters degree from Cortland State University. Her commitment to research and education motivated her to donate herself to Science Care as her last request.
Carol and Dick restored the Elm Tree Inn following the fire of 1974. Their commitment to restore the towns first historical building was their personal accomplishment. It still remains an established business today.
Her hobbies included knitting, bowling, golf and always competitive in card games. Carol and Dick loved to travel to Arizona, Florida and multiple cruises.
She is survived by her daughter, Lynette (Paul) Lipinoga; her sons: Richard (Elaine) Bell and Theodore (Tina) Bell. Also her dear lifetime friends: Norma Totman and Delores Hicks. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, H. Richard Bell, son, Timothy (Doreen) Bell and her parents, Pete and Doris Stiles.
A Memorial Service with luncheon will be held on May 4, 2024 at the McLean Fire Hall at 1:00 p.m.
Contributions in Carol's memory can be made to your choice of the McLean Fire Department, Moravia Fire Department or St. Matthew Episcopal Church, Moravia, where she worshipped.
