Charles Masters Obituary

Charles W. Masters

AUBURN - Charles W. Masters, 81, of Auburn, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, February 3, 2025, in Auburn Community Hospital, with his loving family at his bedside.

He was a lifelong resident of Auburn, the son of the late Sherman 'Doc' and Gladys (Tompkins) Smith. Charlie worked for more than 50 years as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was employed by both CCO Construction and more recently Tracey Road Equipment, both companies in Syracuse. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and snowmobiling, especially with his son, Charlie, and grandson, Trey. Charlie also enjoyed watching NASCAR, with his favorite driver being Jeff Gordon. He was a very proud member for more than 45 years of the Auburn Masonic Lodge 124. Charlie loved helping others, and especially enjoyed helping his neighbors any chance he could. He will be sadly missed by all of his friends and family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Nancy (Mettler) Masters; three children, Annette (Sheldon) Taylor, Charles (Lynn) Masters, Susan (Charlie) Russell; eight grandchildren, Justina Taylor, Justin (Laura) Taylor, Dori Masters, Trey Masters III, Carlie and Cole Calavano, Hailey and Kelsey Russell; three great-grandchildren, Emma and Lucas Taylor, JT Taylor; great-nephew, Richard (Tonya) Smith; and very close friend, Bill Matteson.

In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by sister, Rose Caroline; brother, William Smith; and his favorite feline companion, Tiger.

Calling hours are this Saturday, February 8th, from 2 to 4 p.m., in the Pettigrass Funeral Home. Services will follow at 4 p.m., with the Masons ceremony, followed by some religious scriptures, all in the funeral home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Charlie's memory to either the Sennett Volunteer Fire Department or the Auburn Masonic Lodge 124.
