I am sorry to hear about Darlene's passing. I went to school with Darlene
in Moravia, and my brothers and sister and I attended the Milan Baptist Church in Locke when we were young children as did Darlene and her family.

I am grateful for the opportunity to sign this online guest book even though I am far away.
From the time I lived in Philadelphia, I also remember well how faithfully Darlene came to church on Sundays and served at the Community Dinner as long as she was able to. This faithfulness and devotion certainly was an encouragement to many, as well as her cheerful spirit in spite of her health problems.
God's comfort to her family and peace in knowing that she is with God.

I will miss seeing Darlene at Tenth Church. She would often make an effort to encourage me, and she would always greet me cheerfully, whether she was busy helping with ACTS or just waiting for services or her ride home. And I still remember how excited she was after her trip last year to visit family in the South, for a wedding, I think. Darlene was special to us, and I will remember her example because she didn't let her physical challenges keep her from serving the Lord and enriching the congregation. It is good to know that she is finally free from care and supremely happy in the presence of Christ.

I was privileged to know Darlene the last 3 years of her life, when she was living in Philadelphia and worshiping at Tenth Presbyterian. Two memories stand out in my mind: one was her determination to be at church each Sunday, despite transportation difficulties, and despite health issues, in order to worship the Lord she loved and to fellowship with and serve His people. The second memory is how proud she was of her family - she loved to share with me the family's visits, calls, cards, and news of weddings or births. She prayed regularly for the extended family - even to the last when it would have been easy to let her own health issues overwhelm her. I will miss her, and extend my condolences to the family during this time of mourning. I also rejoice at the thought that Darlene is with her Lord and free from pain and fear.

I was sorry to read of Darlene's passing. I often wondered where Darlene was living and the rest of you. It is sad how we all lose touch over the years. We have a lot of memories from our times of growing up in Locke and attending church and school together. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you all.
