Hello Patty-
Mother to mother...there is nothing that prepares you for this hole in you life. Though David struggled mightily from the beginning, he was always there, called you mom, and needed you. In your "medical" and spiritual brain, I am sure you know he is finally feeling better and is in a wonderful place. In you mother's brain, how you must miss him!
Please know you are being thought of often at this, the most difficult time of you life.
A huge, heatfelt XO to you-

To David's family,

I and my Director hired David for his job at ENT UPMC. His words that lead us to hire such a beautiful human being was he wanted to give back for all that he got. What a marvelous human being he was and will remain in our hearts and minds for eternity. He was so brave and courageous never used his CF as a crutch. Made all of us laugh. I had him to my home for his first Easter in Pittsburgh what a wonderful day it was we laughed almost all day. He acted like he was part of our family.

We will miss David, but I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to have him in my life. Your son was an angel from God and taught us many lessons. Thank you so very much for the privilege of knowing and working with Dave.

God Bless you while you grieve the loss of a giant!

I knew David through his longtime friend, Beth (Lull) Flynn. I saw David share in giving her away on her wedding day. David was a very caring person. Never thinking of himself, but always others. He had a kind and loving heart that he opened to everyone he met.The last time we spoke he said how he felt so good. He never had before and was glad to have the chance. What a difference this world was with David in it. He will be greatly missed.

I had the pleasure of knowing and working with David at Auburn Memorial. He was a great guy. He had a great sense of humor. The thing I will always remember is his willingness to help. It didn't matter if you were a friend, coworker,or a patient. When he saw the need he was there with a kind word.
The world is a better place for David having been here. His life was too short and he will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Dear David’s Family and Friends,
I had the honor of meeting Dave at First Presbyterian Church when I was 5. We were instantly friends and continued to be many years through high school. I remember his fondness for drawing, comics, movies and listening to various genres of music. He was a positive role model and always made me feel welcomed in his company. Please know my thoughts are with you in this time of sorrow. I will never forget him.

Im sure you knew from the beginning what a wonderful son and brother dave was. I was able to find out what a wonderful person he was during the time we worked together at AMH. He inspired me in so many ways. I remember a particular conversation we had after he returned to work following his first transplant. We stood in the stairwell and discussed what it means to be greatful, and not just for the new set (as he referred to the lungs) but for the people around us and our time on earth with them. I will never forget him, that conversation is engraved in my heart and has guided me through many of lifes challenges. i hope your family will find comfort during this challenging time, i am greatful for having known david. Words can not express the depth of my sorrow for Davids passing. I have been friends with David for many many years and lost touch with him sometime after he moved to Pa.(I also worked with him at AMH) Davids a beautiful man who never let his illness stop his happiness. He lived a happy and fulfilled life because he has a wonderful family who allowed him to be David and not a kid with CF. He put up a couragious fight and God Blessed him to love for the moments he had.

I can not attend the viewing or the funeral because I live so far away but the family will be in my thoughts and prayers

Dear Karl, Pat and Heather: We are so sorry to hear of David's passing. We fondly remember visiting him in the hospital in Syracuse and his willingness to have new procedures and medicatons tried so that his life might help to save others who are suffering from Cystic Fibrosis. We also remember all of the family gatherings we shared. Those are fond memories. And, we especially remember the times that Dan babysat and Pat, you taught Dan how to do the therapy required for David so that he could be comfortable when you were at work. We certainly are keeping your entire family in our thoughts and prayers during these difficult times. His will to live is certainly a testamony to us all. We love you guys!

To David's Family,
I had the pleasure of working with David at University ENT in Pittsburgh. I am so sorry for your loss. I grew to think of David as another son (my son Christopher worked with him at the front desk and they became very close). Everytime I made meatloaf for dinner, I had to make a sandwich for David. He loved my meatloaf sandwiches. David was a special young man and we all loved working with him. Please know that he will always hold a special place in our hearts here at ENT.

Thank you for sharing him with us.

Dear Pat and Karl, David put up an awesome fight for life. I remember from my days at AMH, he was always pleasant, happy, and upbeat, even if his body wasn't. My late husband Dr. Edwin Dailey, often spoke of David, he thought he was a courageous young man. At this time memories are bittersweet, because you heart is broken. From my own experience its the memories that eventually help sustain you. I know you did all you could to make his life happy, and as normal as possible, and for that he loved you. Remember that Love is the light within you that can never be put out. My prayers for comfort from you friends and family and each other are with you. I truly enjoyed working with both of you, and David.

To Dave's Family,
I worked with Dave at the University Ear, Nose and Throat office in Pgh. We all loved and cared about Dave. He loved working with our patients and was very helpful with them. He did have that amazing smile and the wonderful look on life. He is a true champion. He will forever be a part of our lives here in Pittsburgh. We send his family our love and prayers as we celebrate Dave's life. God bless you all for the loss of you wonderful Dave. His friends in ENT will miss him always.

I had the honor of working with Dave at UPMC Ear, Nose, & Throat Specialists. He taught me the ropes, so to speak. Dave was a great friend and he had a heart of gold. He also had a unique sense of humor that not too many people really understood. He loved life and loved working with people. He will be missed, but definitely never forgotten. He's touched many and we all loved him.

Dear Karl, Pat and Heather: We are so sorry to hear of the passing of David. What a blessing he was to our lives even with a serious illness. We fondly remember visiting him in the Hospital in Syracuse when he said he was in for a "tune up". We also cherish the times that our Dan babysat the children and Pat you taught Dan how to do his therapy treatments so that he could breathe. He will be sorely missed. However, he did far outlive his life expectancy and we believe that is due to his determination to live and that he was always open to whatever new treatments were available so that others living with cystic fibrosis would have a better chance for life and the quality that it brings. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We love all of you.

Dear David's family-

I remember calling David in 2003 while waiting for my own double lung transplant (which I got in August of 04) and he couldn't have been nicer or more upbeat. He took a lot of my fears away and painted a positive, though realistic, picture of what I had to look forward to.
I saw him last at a CF fund-raising dinner in 2005 and he spoke of his plans to move to Pittsburgh. I was awed and inspired by his continued optimism and strength.
I share in your loss and my prayers go out to your family in the loss of such a brave and inspirational soul.

Dear David's family,
This is indeed a sad day for you on the loss of your dear sweet David. I worked with David in the admitting area of AMH.
There were times when we were there together that people would stop & ask if we were related.
Not sure why this was asked, but I would have been proud to say yes to that question. He was such a very sweet, happy soul.
My prayers go out to you all & let us all be glad to have known & loved him for the time with had with him!!

Dear Pat, Karl & family,
My thought and prayers are with you at this time.
I always enjoyed David's sense of humor and his wonderful Spirit. He was always fun to be around. I always hoped he was on the desk at AMH if I had the occasion to have to be there.
David was a joy to have on all of our Scouting events and adventures. He was a leader amongst the other Scouts and I am proud to have known him. Jake & jeff always thought very highly of him as well. The summercamp in the Adirondaks, and trips with the youth group are some of the memories they will always cherish.
Most of all was his resolve not to let his disease take him hostage or hold him down. He was a courageous man and an inspiration to me as well as others I'm sure.

Dear Pat, Karl and all of David's family,
I heard w saddness in my heart the news of David. Occasionally in our lives, we are graced with meeting someone who touches our heart in such a way that changes us forever. David touched mine. As a child, his optimism and bright outlook was all the more surprising given what he had to go thru. As he grew up, this outlook never changed. Whether sick or well, he kept that same smile on his face for the 20 odd years I knew him. As an adult or a child, his delight each time he saw me allowed something in me to open and bloom. We all loved David as a child, and we all were proud of him as he faced the challenges that no one should have to face with courage and cheer as an adult. There will never be another David, but please know that there is a small piece of David in everyone that knew him. We all feel your pain, and we will all remember him. My most sincere sympathy,
Carol
