David P. "Wally" Walawender

AUBURN - David P. "Wally" Walawender, 68, of Auburn, passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 25, 2018, at his home.

He was born in Auburn, the son of the late Floyd and Stella Sheftic Walawender and had been a life resident. "Wally," as he was affectionately known by his family and friends was a corrections officer for more than 34 years at Auburn Correctional Facility. He previously worked at Auburn Plastics and Cosentino's Florist. Dave was an avid bowler and softball player. He also was an excellent cook and baker, especially his "famous" pistachio cake and blackberry pie. He was a member and not a regular of the UNC Club, Utopia and S.K. Post.

Wally loved above everything else, his family. He cherished the times spent with his children, grandchildren, siblings, and extended family members and friends. Dave's infectious smile and quick wit will forever be remembered and never forgotten.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Kara, Cheryl, and Kimberly Walawender, all of Auburn; three beloved grandchildren, Meghan Currier, Hayley Clark, and Elliot Walawender; siblings, Donald (Kathy) Walawender, Denise (Steve) Spafford, Dorothy (Doc) Phan, Donna (Kari) Wilmot, Deborah (Paul) Williams, Dennis (Pam) Walawender, Daniel (Colleen) Walawender, and Doug (Bethany) Walawender; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Tony) Gucciardi, Linda Harig, and Jill (Bill) Atkinson; brother-in-law, Louis (Terri) Losani; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Dave was predeceased by his wife, Denise in 2009, and a sister, Diane Mills, who recently passed.

Dave's Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. this Saturday in SS. Peter and Paul Church, Washington Street, Auburn. Calling hours are from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
