Donna Urbanek Obituary

Donna Marie Urbanek

February 15, 1949 - August 26, 2024

We pay tribute to Donna Marie Urbanek, born February 15, 1949, to Daniel and Theresa Kwiatkowski of Cheektowaga, NY, who closed her final chapter on August 26, 2024.

A woman of resilience and courage, Donna's life was a testament to the power of determination and hard work. After moving from Buffalo to Auburn and finally settling in Moravia, NY, Donna's dedicated spirit led her to achieve a Master's in Teaching and to work in this field for many years as a Substitute Teacher. Donna later worked tirelessly as a Laboratory Manager at Cayuga Community College until her retirement in 2014. Her laughter and humor brought light to the lives of the students and staff.

Donna was a passionate reader and had a deep affection for all things botanical. Her garden was her sanctuary, a place where she found peace and joy. She enjoyed traveling, especially embarking on several cruises with her beloved husband, Richard Urbanek, and close family. Donna's trips to the Philadelphia Flower Show were always a highlight of her year. Above all, Donna was a dedicated family woman, and her loved ones were the center of her universe. As Maya Angelou once said, "I sustain myself with the love of family."

Donna is survived by her sons: David (Heather) Urbanek and Andrew (Chrissie) Urbanek; granddaughter, Gwendolyn Urbanek; sister, Sharon Fink; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Theresa Kwiatkowski, and her beloved husband, Richard Urbanek.

Services will be held in Buffalo, NY at the convenience of the family.

Donna's resilience, courage, dedication, and humor will forever be remembered by all who knew her. We invite you to leave memories, stories, and upload photos of Donna to her memorial page. Your condolences will serve as a valuable source of comfort and inspiration in times to come.

Donna's family has entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., www.haugheyfuneralhome.com.

A friend sent me this comforting message after my husband passed: "They say we die twice. Once when our breath leaves our body, once when the last person we know says our name". So Donna still lives in our fond memories.

I retired from the College before Donna but remember her as a team player and very pleasant co-worker. Peggy Kennedy
