Doris J. Kirsch

SYRACUSE | Doris J. Kirsch, 85, of Syracuse, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at St. Luke's Nursing Home in Oswego. She was a graduate of Cazenovia Central School in 1945 and earned a bachelor's and master's degree from Cortland State in elementary education. She had retired in 1987 from the Van Duyn Elementary School in the Syracuse City School District, where she taught for over 30 years. She became a world traveler having taught at US Dependent Schools in the Philippines, Italy, Japan, and Germany, in the 1950s and 60s. Ms. Kirsch was a member of the NYS Retired Teachers Association, St. Stephen Lutheran Church and it's Senior Fellowship, and a member of the O.E.S. Neowagha Chapter 414 in Cazenovia. She is survived by her sister, Barbara (Alfred) Pisano; three nieces, Kathy (Larry) Morrell, Terri Pisano, Susan (Robert) Anderson; a nephew, Thomas Pisano; three great-nephews and six great-great-nieces and nephews, and cousins Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Frasier-Shepardson Funeral Home with burial to follow in Woodlawn Mausoleum. Calling hours are 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 1217 N. Salina St., Syracuse. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 873 Dewitt St., Syracuse, NY 13203 or to The Hearth at Greenpoint Activities Department, 150 Old Liverpool Road, Liverpool, NY 13088.
