Dorothea Mazzeo Obituary

Dorothea Mazzeo

AUBURN - Dorothea Mazzeo, 95, the daughter of the late John and Alta (Olmstead) Cameron, and life resident of Auburn, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2023 at The Commons on St. Anthony, Auburn.

Dorothea and her late husband, Mike Mazzeo, not only built a successful business, but also created a warm and welcoming atmosphere at the Pioneer Restaurant. She cherished the moments spent socializing with their loyal customers, many of whom became lifelong friends. Her genuine interest in people and her ability to make everyone feel like family was one of her defining qualities. Dorothea extended this sense of camaraderie to the restaurant's employees, who she considered an integral part of their extended family. Her kindness, generosity, and genuine care for others left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was predeceased by her husband, Michael; her sister, Isabella; brothers: George, John and Douglas; and a good friend, Jack Dugan. Dorothea is survived by her children: James Mazzeo, Susan Patalano (Anthony), Cindy Mazzeo, Michael Mazzeo Jr. (Linda), Rebecca Salato (Richard); grandchildren: Lindsay Patalano-Hall (David), Adam Patalano, Alex Patalano, Michael A. Mazzeo, Jimmy Mazzeo ; great-grandchild, Zoe Hall; as well as several step-grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends are invited to visit the family on Monday, October 2, from 3:00-5:00p.m. at Langham Funeral Home, 75 E. Genesee St. with a funeral service to follow. A private burial will take place at a later date in Soule Cemetery.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude, first to the dedicated home health aides who cared for Dorothea in her home, and then to the staff at The Commons on St. Anthony, 2nd floor, for the exceptional care and support they provided to Dorothea.

Dorothea will always be remembered for her consistently impeccable styled hair and her pride in dressing elegantly.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to a charity of one's choice. Please visit www.Langhamfuneralhomellc.com to leave a condolence for the family.

I met Dorothea when I was taking care of Mr. Dugan at Loretto. She was a wonderful, kind soul and made blankets and sweater sets for the girls who were going to have a baby. Always classy and bringing us baked goods. She will be missed dearly. RIP my dear friend . Thoughts and prayers to her family and my deepest condolences.
