SALISBURY, Md. - Edwin J. Dougherty, 76, of Salisbury, Md., died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center.
Born in Auburn, he was a son of the late Paul A. Dougherty and Marie E. Spaulding Dougherty.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of American Legion Post 64 in Salisbury. Mr. Dougherty retired from Sears as a salesman in the carpet department after 21 years of service. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elsie Dougherty; a daughter, Christine Knights and her husband, Harry, of Seminole, Fla.; two sons, Daniel Dougherty Esq. of Salisbury, Md. and Gerry Dougherty of Ocean City (all children were graduates of WiHi); nine grandchildren; four great-grandsons; two sisters, Margaret Ann Dougherty of Scipio Center and Linnette Slightam of Middleton, Wis.; a brother, Paul Dougherty of Deerfield, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Waddington and Sister Paul Marie Dougherty.
A memorial Mass was held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Salisbury, Md., with interment in Maryland Veterans Cemetery Eastern Shore, near Hurlock, Md. Calling hours were held at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury, Md.
