Elwyn M. "Al" Sullivan

AUBURN < Elwyn M. "Al" Sullivan, 85, husband of Susan A. Wolczyk Lorenc Sullivan died Sunday, June 21, 2009, peacefully at home. Mr. Sullivan was born in Auburn, the son of the late Maurice and Lillian Belle Sullivan and was a life resident of Auburn. He was employed by the Allied Chemical Co. of Solvay, where he later retired. Mr. Sullivan was a veteran of World War II, Army Air Force, North African Division of Air Transport Command. He volunteered at Mercy Hospital and Auburn Senior Citizen Club, where he was a past president and treasurer. He was a chartered member and trustee of the VFW Owasco Post No. 6575. He volunteered many years in the Owasco Fire Department and later served as commissioner of the fire department. Al was also an avid bowler and golfer. Surviving is his wife, Susan A. Wolczyk Lorenc Sullivan, of Auburn; one son, Andrew Sullivan and his wife Jane, of Union Bridge, Md.; one stepdaughter, Janet Beckett and husband John, of Abilene, Texas; one stepson, Joseph Lorenc and his wife Donna, of Auburn; two grandsons, Phillip and David Sullivan, of California; two step-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Karen Lorenc, of Auburn; one great-grandson, Daniel Sullivan, of California; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Sullivan, of Auburn, and Dawn Elaine White and husband Cliff, of Syracuse; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sullivan was predeceased by his first wife, Beverly J. Sullivan; and son, Jary Sullivan; one sister, Elizabeth Farrant; and one brother, Daniel W. Sullivan. Friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, at the Brew Funeral Home, 48 South St., Auburn. A funeral service will immediately follow at 4 p.m., at the funeral home, with nephew, the Rev. David Farrant, officiating. Interment will be in Owasco Rural Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.
