James Solomon Obituary

James Martin Solomon

April 3, 1948 - June 23, 2024

SKANEATELES - James Martin Solomon of Skaneateles, NY and Naples, FL passed away on Sunday June 23, 2024 after courageously battling health issues in recent years.

Born on April 3, 1948 to Francis and Genevieve (Novak) Solomon in Auburn, NY where he also met and married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Susan (Daly) in 1971. Jim and Susan share the same birthday and are forever soul mates.

Jim attended Mount Carmel High School, SUNY Albany and Syracuse University before starting his business career in New York City.

He worked for Arthur Andersen before accepting a position at Time Warner Inc. He climbed the corporate ladder to VP of Tax Operations and experienced many business adventures around the world. His co-workers were not just colleagues; they were friends with whom he stayed connected to throughout his life.

Jim and Susan started their family in Auburn, NY, spent many years in Bayside, Queens and eventually settled in Manhasset, NY where he often entertained family and friends. He became a regular and favorite patron at many Long Island establishments.

When not working, you could definitely find Jim watching or playing sports. As a high school and college athlete himself, there weren't many sports he didn't excel in from basketball, softball and golf to NYC marathons.

He especially loved going to watch his son play football for St. Lawrence University, traveling to fields and rinks to watch his grandchildren and attending games at his daughters' schools, University of Michigan and Syracuse University.

Jim had a love for many other things in life - his faith, following the stock market, financial trading, cars, road maps, sweeping and vacuuming, haircuts, good food, especially desserts, but most of all, his family and friends. He was a dedicated husband, father and papa who always made sure his family knew he was their biggest fan.

Jim knew after retirement he would find his way back to Upstate NY. He enjoyed working in his yard, entertaining and boating on Skaneateles Lake. He always looked forward to getting together with his high school friends and college fraternity brothers.

Jim supported many charities, was a devout member of his church, honored to serve on the board of Hospice of Central NY & of the Finger Lakes and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus.

Jim was predeceased by his parents. He is survived and missed by his loving wife, of 53 years, Susan; children: Mark (Kyla) of Wilton, CT, Kelly of New York City, and Jillian of Skaneateles, NY; his cherished grandchildren: Grant and Sophia Solomon; brother, Kenneth (Denise) Solomon; siblings-in-law: MaryLou (David) Natoli, Patrick (Teresa) Daly, Gerard (Patricia) Daly, Michelle Daly, Colleen (Edward) Krickovich along with beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was loved by everyone and will be missed everyday.

Calling hours will be at Sacred Heart Church, 90 Melrose Rd., Auburn, NY on Thursday, July 18, 2024 from 5 to 7 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be at Sacred Heart on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 10 AM.

Shortly after Jim and Sue were married, his new Father-in-Law, Louie, gave him the appropriate nickname - "Big Time"!!
In no time, Sol showed everyone in the family his Class, Intelligence, Integrity, and Joy to share with all.
He expanded his outstanding basketball talent in HS and College to the business arena till he retired. Maybe even more importantly, he picked-up the bar tab every year at the Weedsport Hotel at the conclusion of the Daly Open golf tournament after winning the tourney. Possibly, he just felt obligated because he won the 1st 10 tournaments.

Sol leaves us much to early and will be missed by his many friends, OLD teammates, and his large loving family. He leaves us with many great memories, fun times, made jump-shots!! He was a loved winner all his life.

Uncle Louie was right - BIG TIME.....INDEED!!
