Joseph Hackett Sr.

MORAVIA | Joseph Hackett Sr., 94, of Moravia, passed away in Florida on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013. Joseph was born in Paterson, N.J. on April 17, 1918. He was the son of Thomas and Lillian Hackett. Joseph had been a resident of Moravia for 40 years and had previously lived in North Haledon, N.J. Joseph was a heavy equipment operator and retired from the Operating Engineers Local 825. Joe enjoyed retiring to his farm with his wife Helen, spending time with his family and riding his Harley Davidson. He loved rescuing animals, a gift he passed down to many in his family. He is survived by his son, Joseph (Barbara) Hackett Jr.; his daughter, Lynda (Jerry) Welch; his granddaughters, Sheri Spooner and Marci Welch; his great-grandson, Lakota Brooks, of Moravia; his grandson, Jeremy (Debbie) Witten and his four great-grandchildren, of Georgia; his sons, Larry Hackett and Donald (Kathy) Hackett; his grandchildren, Jennifer Cooley, Danny (Nikki) Hackett, Kristy (Jeff) Groover, Tammy, Bradley, Tracey Hackett and his four great-grandchildren in New Jersey and Florida. Joseph was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Helen; his sisters, Hannah Taylor and Agnus Hackett; his brothers, William, Thomas, and Benjamin Hackett. Friends are welcome to join the family in celebrating Joseph's life between 5 and 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, at the home of his son Joseph, 2869 Buckley Hill Road, Moravia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in his memory to the Finger Lakes SPCA, 41 York St., Auburn, NY 13021.
