Laurie Babcock Obituary

Laurie A. (White) Babcock

MORAVIA - Laurie A. (White) Babcock, 71, of Moravia passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, March 28, 2024, at her home.

She was born in Auburn, the daughter of the late Richard and Barbara (Edmunds) White and had been a Moravia resident all of her life. Laurie graduated in 1970 as the Valedictorian from Moravia Central School.

Laurie worked as the Secretary in the Counseling Office at Moravia Central School for 34 years until her retirement in 2018, where during this time she made many incredible friends and adored the many students that crossed her path.

Laurie continued to love the Moravia community. Most recently, watching the Moravia Varsity Boys and Girls win their State Basketball Championships brought her immense joy. She also enjoyed attending the Theatre with her friends, traveling with her sisters and sister-in-law, and was an avid reader.

Laurie, above everything, cherished and adored her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed the many special memories she was fortunate enough to have with each and every one of them, especially watching her grandchildren at their numerous sporting events and the annual Babcock family trips that they have been enjoying for over 20 years. She will be deeply missed by so many.

She is survived by her loving husband and best friend, of 53 years, Donald Babcock; her four children: Dr. Stephanie (Paul) Savelli, Sherrie (Fernand) Joseph, Shannon (Brian) Taylor, Scott (Erica) Babcock: her eight grandchildren: Nicholas and Anthony Savelli, Riley, Rachel, and Ian Joseph, Matthew Taylor, Cameron and Bryce Babcock; her three siblings: Thomas (Debbi) White, Theresa (Robert) Green, Kelly (Tony) Hart; her sister-in-law, Bonnie Bagan; several beloved nieces and nephews; and two very special and dear friends: Michele Nye and Anita Burhans.

Friends and relatives are invited to join the family this Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 36 Church Street, Moravia for a memorial service, celebrating Laurie's life. All are welcome, immediately following the services, to the West Niles Volunteer Fire Department for a luncheon.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Laurie's memory to the Down Syndrome Association of Northeast Ohio, 6533-B Brecksville Road, Independence, OH 44131.

Having worked down the hall from Laurie for over 20 years it is easy to say she was the Sunshine of our lives. Laurie always had a good word, and a wonderful smile that would brighten the darkest day. Her compassion knew no bounds. My heart aches for Don, her kids, and all her family and close friends. She is sorely missed. Grieving is a verb. It takes hard work and perseverance. "Cry when you have to and smile when you can". This phrase has helped us through sad times.
