The Lord took Laverne home Sunday, April 27, 2014. She was 98.5 years old. She was born in Ruth, Mississippi, September 30, 1915, to Nettie and Jessie Greer. She graduated from Ruth High School in Ruth, MS. Moreover, she attended Draughon's Business School. Additionally, she worked in the mills, and she retired as a bookkeeper from Frank Ulmer Lumber Co. She was a follower of Christ and a member at CrossPoint Assembly of God. Furthermore, she taught Sunday School, and she loved to travel.
She was preceded in death by her parents Nettie and Jessie Greer; sisters, Dora Lee Lansdell, Alena Weems, Geneva Thompson, Maudie Moseley, and Atha Lee Collier; and one brother, Jewell Greer. Additionally, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Dewey Kidd; her second husband, Carlton Coker; son-in-law, Don Melton; step-son, Donnie Coker; and step-grandson, Michael Melton.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Fleming (Charles), and step-daughter, Judy Melton; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Fleming (Nicole), Travis Fleming (Jenna), Joy Fleming, Mark Fleming; step- grandchildren, Robbie Melton (Pam), Lynn Morton, Barry Coker; great-grandchildren, Zoie Fleming, Monroe Fleming, Kara Fleming, Analise Fleming; step-great-grandchildren, Torrie Brown, Christopher Melton, Stephanie Blanton, Timothy Morton, Jackie Miller, Jonathan Coker, Kim Coker; step-great-great grandchildren, Skyla Brown, Savannah Brown, Ansley Blanton and Anna Morton, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 6-8 PM, Tuesday, April 29, at Thomas McAfee Northwest
Funeral Service: 1:30 PM, Wednesday, April 30, at Thomas McAfee Northwest with burial at Woodlawn following the service.
