STUART - Melanie J. Bancroft Sharpsteen, 84, of Stuart, Fla., formerly of Locke, passed away on October 5, 2025. Born on May 8, 1941 in Groton, N.Y., she was predeceased by her husband, Edward R. Sharpsteen.
She is survived by children, Julianne Rieks, Joseph J. Rieks, Sheila D. Carroll, Joan M. Weir; stepson, William R. Sharpsteen; brother, Joel Bancroft; aunt, Viola Lane; and extended family.
She worked in graphic arts, volunteered with the American Legion, restored a historic cemetery, supported local charities, and donated 700 masks during COVID.
Private services and interment will be in Bird Cemetery, Locke, N.Y., at a later time. Local arrangements are with the Shurtleff Funeral Home, and condolences may be shared at www.shurtleffservices.com.
