Paul Sedor
April 25, 1933 - Jan. 13, 2024
NAPLES, FL//OWASCO - Paul Sedor, 91, of Naples, Florida and Owasco, New York, passed away peacefully early Saturday evening on January 13, 2024 with his family at his side at Avow in Naples, Florida.
Paul was born in Auburn, New York, on April 25, 1933, the son of William and Helen Seloma Sedor. He retired as an insurance salesman from John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Companies and assisted his brother, Peter, with owning and operating the Sunset Restaurant in Auburn, New York, originally opened in 1933 by his parents. "Saints" Peter and Paul were avid sports fans and supported the community in so many ways; including sponsoring numerous Cayuga County sports teams. Working with the likes of close family friend Tommy Ganey and others, the Sedor brothers preserved and saved Class A professional baseball for the Doubleday's - back in the days when money was tight and the major league teams cut off funding for the minor leagues-by sponsoring the Auburn Sunsets at Falcon Park.
Paul was pre-deceased by the love of his life, Ida Grace Sedor, in 2017, along with all of his other siblings, brothers and sisters, William, George, Michael, Anne (Elkovitch), Helen (Holstein), Irene (Tonzi), Gerald and Peter.
Paul Sedor was affectionately known as the "Mayor of Owasco". His personalized "Owasco" license plates could be seen cruising about the roads of Cayuga County for many years. Paul was elected as one of the very first Democrat officials in the late 1960's as Town Supervisor, and thereafter became County Legislator where he served for fifteen years. He was one of the few Democrats to serve as Chairman of County Committees back in the day when politics were seemingly more civil. His political "battles" with such prominent elected officials as then County Legislator, the Honorable Robert A. Contiguglia, and City of Auburn Mayor of sixteen years, Paul W. Lattimore, were legendary. In fact, it is rumored that Legislator Sedor and Mayor Lattimore often joked about shutting off access to the pump house/Owasco Lake water supply if they could not reach an agreement and accord over votes affecting and impacting both the Town of Owasco and City of Auburn. Owasco Lake was always paramount in their discussions and considerations.
Paul Sedor was very proud of being elected to the Cayuga County Democratic Hall of Fame as an honoree on October 31, 1999, and he retired with his family to live between his two favorite places on God's Green Earth; namely, his home on the Owasco River and his residence on the water in Naples, Florida. Paul was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Owasco and Saint Anne's Catholic Church in Naples, Florida.
Paul enjoyed golfing, reading, spending time with family, socializing with friends, especially at the beach, and was an avid fisherman. He was outgoing and friendly, a "people person" who made everyone with him in any room feel at home, comfortable, and of importance. If Paul could not make you smile, then no one could. He spent a great deal of time with, and was so very proud of, his entire family, including his three sons, Gregory M. (Jacquie) M. Sedor, PA, CAA of Atlanta, Georgia, Dennis P. (Michele) Sedor, Esq. and Dr. Jeffery A. (Donna) Sedor of Marco Island, Florida, as well as their children and grandchildren: Jessica (Edward) Mueller, Paul Frank Sedor, Alisha (Derek Aman) Sedor Esq., Dustin P. (Michelle) Sedor, Esq., Dr. Alanna Sedor (and her fiancée Dr. Abhishek (Shakey) Mishra), Alexandra (Gavin) Sedor Chapman, Gabrielle (Derek) Sedor Aurori, Jacob Sedor and great grandchildren: Landon, Nolan and Holden Mueller, Beck Sedor Aman, Hailey and Fiona Chapman, and Frances Aurori.
Paul and Ida Sedor developed many close friends and relationships at the beaches of sunny Naples, including Bill and Terry Pease and Joe and Pat Cucinott. His private caregiver, Maria Rosales, stood by his side for many years. The family expresses their sincerest thanks for all of the condolences expressed personally and online. There will be future private family and friend's services scheduled once Paul returns home to Owasco and St. Joseph's cemetery from Naples, Florida. Arrangements are by Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn, New York.
Contributions is memory of Paul can be made to the Matthew House at 43 Metcalf Street, Auburn, New York 13021 or the St. Alphonsus Food Pantry at 90 Melrose Road, Auburn, New York 13021.
