SYRACUSE - Peter G. Roth Jr., 85, of 120 Sherbourne Road, Syracuse, died Sept. 4, 2002, at University Hospital, 750 E. Adams St., Syracuse.
He was born Sept. 7, 1916 in Detroit, Mich., and graduated from the University of Detroit in 1939. He spent his summers at Owasco Lake. He was employed as a field agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Syracuse for 25 years, retiring in 1966. He served in Phoenix, Ariz., Buffalo, San Paulo, Brazil and Syracuse. After retiring from the FBI, he became a security manager at Bristol Laboratories until retiring in 1980.
He was a parishioner of St. Therese Church, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, an active member of the Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, and a member of the Owasco Country Club. He and his wife would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in October.
He was predeceased by a son, Peter III, in 1962.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Hamilton Roth; three daughters, Trudy Gongora of Alexandria, Va., Patty Campbell of Kenilworth, Ill. and Mary Mullin of Rochester; two brothers, David Roth of Detroit, Mich. and J. Paul Roth of Poughkeepsie; and six grandchildren, Pilar Gongora, Marisa Gongora, Matthew Campbell, Jenny Campbell, Patrick Mullin and Maggie Mullin.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home Inc., 3175 E. Genesee St., Syracuse, and at 10 a.m. at St. Therese's Church, 112 Lancaster Place, Syracuse. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fleming. Calling hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at the funeral home.
