Ramola Piwinski Obituary

Ramola Ruth Piwinski

Jan. 31, 1934 - March 24, 2024

Heaven gained another angel when Ramola Ruth (Rickley) Piwinski, 90, passed away March 24, 2024, at Finger Lakes Center for Living.

Ramola was born in Kansas on January 31, 1934, the eldest daughter of James and Alpha Rickley. Her family moved to New York when she was a child and settled in Moravia. She was active in school playing basketball, softball, and cheerleading.

Ramola entered Auburn Memorial School of Nursing at 18. She studied at Sloan-Kettering. While in New York City, she went on a blind date and met her future husband, Paul Piwinski. They married June 4, 1954.

Ramola worked at Evans Street Nursing Home, Auburn Memorial Hospital, and Owens Orchards. She also taught Nursing at BOCES. Former patients would often tell us how wonderfully she took care of them on 4 Central. She really showed her nursing care and compassion for our father before he passed.

Ramola was an awesome cook and baker, always preparing a delicious meal with a tasty dessert. She looked forward to her family, friends, and neighbors stopping by to share a cup of tea. She enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends, knitting shawls, book club, and Bible study with our dad.

She loved going to Edgewater, Hawaii, Florida, Rahway and the Jersey Shore to visit her sister and her family. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed many Labor Day weekends in Wayne, ME with her family.

Ramola was predeceased by her husband, Paul Piwinski; sister-in-law, Sharon Piwinski; nephew, Scott Piwinski; brother-in-law, Daniel Martin. She is survived by her children: Dana (Laurie Carter) Piwinski, Joseph (Liz Basile) Piwinski and Beth (David) Tripp; grandchildren: David (Julie) Piwinski, Mary Brooke (Michael) Walsh, Kristen (Miles) Piwinski, Michael (Darci) Piwinski, Jessie (Brian) Tripp, Steve (Emma) Tripp; great-grandchildren: Norah and Maeve Walsh; her sister, Cheryl Martin; her brother-in-law, Jim (Pat) Piwinski; sister-in-law, Margaret Stuhlreyer; and stepsisters: Carol Baildon, Barbara LaLonde; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Westminster Manor and also the staff at Finger Lakes Center for Living, who took such good care of our mom.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at White Chapel Funeral Home, Inc., 197 South Street, Auburn. A funeral service will follow at noon in the funeral home with interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Auburn.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ramola's name may be made Westminster Manor, 81 South Street, Auburn, NY 13021.

I´m so sorry to hear of your mom´s passing. My mother worked with Ramola at BOCES and I got to know her through my mom. They maintained their friendship over the years and when my mom became sick, Ramola would often come to visit. Those visits were special...your mom was special! So kind and soft spoken, a true friend!

I worked with Ramola for many years at AMH. She was the kindest, sweetest ever, as well as being very knowledgeable of patient needs.
My condolences to her children. Your Mom was truly a treasure.

Mrs. Piwinski joined our book club along with here daughter Beth a few years ago! It was a great time we enjoyed the company of good friends and books! Mrs. Piwinski was a close neighbor to my grandparents home in Auburn! I remember playing with the kids in the neighborhood and then later years seeing her at the hospital as a nurse! Ramola was a kind hearted fun person! I´m blessed to have known her and her children! Many good times over the years! Thanks all my prayers!
