AUBURN | Ronald H. Wild, 86, of Kearney Avenue, Auburn, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Oct. 30, 2015 at Auburn Community Hospital, surrounded by his loving wife, children and step-children.
Ron was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a man of integrity who was always willing to help those around him. He was a gentle soul that will be sorely missed.
Mr. Wild was born in Auburn on Oct. 4, 1929, the son of the late Henry S. and Bertha Emery Wild. Ron served his country while in the U.S. Air Force. He retired as a Sergeant with the NYS Department of Corrections from Auburn Correctional Facility, enjoying over 26 years of retirement. One of his favorite past times was golfing; he was a member of the Highland Golf Club and Lakeview Country Club. Ron was beloved by his two extended families, his first wife's family, the Driscolls and his second wife's family, the Mendillos. He truly enjoyed the times he spent with all his family.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife and friend of 30 years, Dorothy (Post) Wild; his loving children, Ronald (Toni) Wild, Thomas (Tracy) Wild, Cynthia Wild, Patricia (John) MicGlire and son-in-Law, Lyle Engbretson; his stepchildren, Deborah Villano, Albert (Nancy) Mendillo, Maryl (Mark Vorreuter) Mendillo, Gail (Mike) Murray, Mark Mendillo, John (Cindilee) Mendillo, Ruth Mendillo and Peter (Carolyn) Mendillo; his treasured grandchildren, Danielle (Bert) Willis, Emery Brandon (Julie) Wild, Britton (Kelly) Wild, Joshua and Jenna Engbretson, Christopher and Sarah Wild, Gabriel MicGlire; stepgrandchildren, Kevin (Jessica) Mendillo, Chris, Marc and Sara Mendillo, Jake (Grace) Vorreuter, Erin Murray and Collin Paul; four great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; his cousin, Joan (Neil) Taylor, who was like a sister to him; his brother-in-law, Thomas (Helen) Driscoll whom he was especially close to; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Ron was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia Driscoll Wild in 1982; his daughter, Bethanne Engbretson; and his grandson, Jeremy Patrick Engbretson in 2009.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Alphonsus Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Auburn. Friends and relatives may visit with Ron's family Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. in St. Alphonsus Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ronald H. Wild may be made to the American Cancer Society.
