Ruth Parmley Obituary

GENOA - Ruth N. Parmley, 92, went home to be with her Lord on Dec. 18, 2012. Ruth was born in Candor, on Feb. 22, 1919, daughter of the late Nicholas And Blanche (Lovejoy) Bates. Her family moved to Genoa when Ruth was 22 where she would maintain her residence in her childhood home until her passing. She married the late Elwood Parmley in 1939 and they remained life long residents of the Genoa area. After working for a number of years at Smith Corona, Ruth then went on to work as one of the first youth counselors at the Lansing Girls School. She enjoyed working with the resident and retired from there with many fond memories and stories she loved to share about 'her girls.' Ruth was also a member of the Scipio Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her strength of character, her devotion to God and her family, as well as her quick wit and endless supply of clever puns. Ruth is survived by her son, Fay Parmley; her daughter, Joyce Chamberlain; grandchildren, Scott Chamberlain, Michelle (Douglas) Milliman, Kelli Parmley, Sheila Parmley, Michael (Sonia) Parmley; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Ruth was predeceased by Elwood, her loving husband of 66 years; grandson, Fay ('Petey') Parmley Jr.; son-in-law, W. Eugene Chamberlain and daughter-in-law, Cheryl (Redder) Parmley. In accordance with her wishes, there were no public calling hours. A private graveside service was held at East Venice Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider Scipio Baptist Church, PO Box 10, Union Springs, NY 13160, or Genoa Fire Department 10015 Route 90, Genoa, NY 13071. Dear Joyce & Fay, your Mom was a friend to my mother, Bernice Dayton, and would take her cookies with a visit. We go way back to Venice Baptist Church days and we will meet again in heaven because we have that "hope" the Bible tells about.

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. She was a wonderful person and always made me feel at home while I would visit her and Elwood. My heart goes out to all of you, and to Michael and Sonia for your loss also. I remember when she would cook for us, and she loved to just talk and make everyone feel right at home. She will be missed dearly.

My prayers and thoughts go out to you all. I have good memories going there to visit with her and Sonia and Mike and the kids. She will be dearly missed. God Bless You All with Love. Cindee Rotunda Groton NY

I worked with Ruth at south Lansing and have always remembered her as someone who was a good example to all of those around her. I visited her a few times after her reitrement, and we had great visits and memories to share. Phyllis (Rantanen) Bunker
