November 11, 2025
William "Bill" Allen Fulton, 84, of Tyler Dr., Auburn, passed away on November 11, 2025 surrounded by his loving family at the Finger Lakes Center for the Living.
Bill was born in Auburn in 1941 and was the son of the late Allen R. and Marie Hickey Fulton. He was a proud member of the class of 1959, Mount Carmel High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Business and Counseling from Northern Michigan University.
Bill took pride being an American and served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard for 10 years as a Chaplin's Assistant. Bill began his career as a civil servant in 1967 as a Senior Investigator for the desertion, support and fraud unit for Cayuga County Social Services. In 1975 he changed jobs and began his 38-year-long commitment to helping others as a counselor with the NYS Department of Corrections at Auburn Correctional Facility, retiring in 2001. Following his retirement, he worked for 10 years for the City of Auburn as the Secretary to the Commissioner for Civil Service.
Bill lived a life full of activity, friendship, and family. He loved spending time on Owasco Lake, boating and "rafting" with family and friends. While in his 20's he played on the "Auburn Wizards," a semi-pro basketball team sponsored by Billy Kufs and coached by Ormie King. He stayed active playing in city softball and basketball leagues well into his 70's. He was a long-time participant in the both the Winter and the Summer Great Race, where he ran and canoed with his trademarks of determination and good humor.
He was a great organizer and community supporter, founding the State Street Run in 1990, which he proudly led for 30 years. A lifetime member of the YMCA, Bill also coached CYO basketball for Sacred Heart Church, serving as President for many years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Bill was deeply proud of his heritage, tracing his grand-parents roots across the pond to Kilbarchan, Scotland and Castledermot, Ireland where he fit right in with his kinsmen. He often spoke fondly of the strength, spirit and traditions that came from his ancestors- values he carried with him throughout his life. He, Lynne and extended family made many wonderful memories by spending winters in Florida at "Aunt Joan's" condo. Above all, Bill was a family man-warm, kind, and steady. He had a gift for bringing people together, and his calm, caring nature made him a respected leader and cherished friend to many.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 57 years, Lynne LaDouce Fulton; three children: Alan (Kathryn) Fulton, Carrie Fulton and Abby (Mark) Lepak; five grandchildren: Elle, Sophie and Will Fulton, Alex and Jack Lepak; brothers-in-law, Zinc LaDouce, Ed (Linda) LaDouce; beloved nieces and nephews and their children: Z.B.
