Funeral services for Carol Marie Kropf, 92, was conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Saturday morning Sept. 17, 2022, at 11 a.m. at the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton. Interment was in the Oak Hill Cemetery west of Brayton. The casket bearers were her grandchildren.


Carol Marie Kropf, the daughter of Clarence Ingvald and Eda Caroline (Osher) Skattebo, was born Feb. 20, 1930, at her parent's home in Wallingford, and died Sept. 13, 2022, at her home in rural Kimballton, under hospice care at the age of 92 years, 6 months, and 23 days.
Carol was baptized and confirmed at the Wallingford Lutheran Church. She attended rural schools near Wallingford and then graduated from the Estherville High School with the Class of 1948. Carol then studied at Waldorf College in Forest City, and graduated with a Teaching Certificate in Education. Carol was employed as an Elementary Teacher in West Bend. This is where she met her future husband, Duane.
On June 1, 1952, she was united in marriage to Duane Leon Kropf at the Lutheran Church in Wallingford. They were blessed with six children David, Marsha, Rodney, Debra, Randall and Diane. Carol and Duane lived in several locations in Iowa finally settling in their present home north of Kimballton, where they have lived for over 50 years. While living near Kimballton she did childcare and later respite care for those with special needs until she retired at age 83.
Carol was an active member of the Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton. She was the longtime President of the Brayton Women's Organization and Vice-President of the Western Iowa Synod, ELCA. She loved to bake and take care of visitors. She also enjoyed mowing her lawn with a push mower into her 90s. She loved to be with her family and loved to spoil her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Duane; her daughter-in-law Pat Kropf; her parents; brother Earnest and wife Mary Margaret and Clare Skattebo; her sister Margaret Gunderson and husband Roy, and her brother-in-law Richard Kropf.
Survivors include her children David Kropf and wife Dixie of Estherville; Marsha Kragelund and husband Bill of Anita; Rodney Kropf of Kimballton; Debra Talcott and husband Wayne of Mendon, Ill.; Randall Kropf of Maryville, Mo; Diane McFadden and husband Oliver of Atlantic; her 25 grandchildren Jack, Joseph, Joshua Kropf; AJ and Zach Edwards; Brandae Lopez, Melane Heyd; Angela, Alyssa, Joey and Jimmy Kragelund; Tina, Jayme, Abigail, and Casey Kropf and Jessica Day; Jeremy and Adam Tallcott and Rebekah Blank; Christopher, Kevin, Ryan and Cole Kropf; Kerran and Camden McFadden; 31 great- grandchildren; sister Lenora "Punky" Kropf of Ruthven; sister-in-law Maxine Skattebo of Fairmont, Minn.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
