John Parrott Obituary

John M. Parrott, 80, of Star Valley Ranch, Wyo., peacefully passed on May 22, 2017.
John was born in 1936. He graduated Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, with a degree in Education.
John was married to Janet Haals Parrott in 1961. They were married 56 years.
His 33 year teaching career began in Royal and Harlan, and concluded in Jackson Hole, Wyo. In 1994 when a heart transplant ended his career, John was dean of students, athletic director, and a high school and middle school teacher. His love and passion for teaching included American, Wyoming, and Jackson Hole History. Within the unique Jackson Hole School system, he was also able to instruct students in hunter safety, archery and direct student research of early homesteads, which makes up the National Elk Refuge. John was a long time referee in Iowa and with his brother, Roger, in Wyoming. He also received the Pioneer Award in 1993.
John enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, sports, horse racing, bird watching, family and friends. He was also actively involved with the Jackson Hole Historical Society.
John is survived by wife, Janet Haals Parrott; son: Blaine Parrott & wife Kim; daughter: Shellie Parrott Miller and husband Brian; grandchildren: Katie, Jeff, Cody, Taylor, Austin, and Carson; Sisters: Barbara Parrott Jauch, Linda Parrott Klinzman & husband Marc, and numerous supportive nieces, nephews and family.
John is preceded in death by father, Bus Parrott; mother, Veda Barentson Parrott; his brother, Roger Parrott; his sister, Marilee Parrott Michaels.
The memorial service will be held at one of John's favorite places, the Bar J Chuckwagon, at 4200 W. Bar J Chuckwagon, Wilson, Wyo., at 11:00 am, June 10th. The family will be greeting friends and relatives following the service.
