Lorene Vorm

1926 - 2016

Funeral services for Lorene Vorm, 89, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic. A private family burial will be held in the Oakfield Cemetery east of Brayton. Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, is in charge of the arrangements.
Lorene was born east of Exira on Dec. 11, 1926, to George and Susie (Heckman) Schlater. and passed away Friday, Jan. 29, 2016, at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn.
She was baptized as an adult at the Brayton home of her parents-in-law, Theodor and Anna (Kyhnn) Vorm.
Lorene grew up on the family farm and attended country school during her elementary years. She went to high school in Exira and graduated in 1944.
On Feb. 28, 1945, Lorene married Leslie Vorm. They had five children. Over her lifetime, Lorene was a homemaker, did painting and wallpapering, and worked as a store clerk. She was a past member of Hamlin and Ebenezer Lutheran Churches and a present member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Lorene was involved in the DOES and hospital auxiliary. She enjoyed golf, playing cards, and socializing with friends and family.
Preceding Lorene in death were her husband, Leslie; her parents, George and Susie Schlater; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Theodor and Anna Vorm; her brothers and an infant sister; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Grover and Allene Schlater, Marvin and Doris Schlater, Dick and Norma Schlater, Donavon Nelson, Leonard and Vera Vorm and Albert Andersen.
Lorene is survived by her children, Suzanne (Bob) Just of Atlantic, Nancy (Chuck) Hansen of Audubon, Kenneth (Julie) Vorm of Kimballton, Bruce (Diane) Vorm of Casey and Sheryl (Jeff) Harder of Walnut,; 17 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Lois Nelson of Atlantic; her sisters-in-law, Lydia Andersen of Blair, Neb., and Leanna (Delbert) Killen of Brayton; and many other relatives and friends.
Family will visit with friends at a lunch in the church fellowship hall following the funeral service.
Lorene's family request memorials be made to Salem Lutheran Home's memory unit.
