Mildred Virginia Meyer, the daughter of Albert Theodore and Emma (Hansen) Nelson, was born June 22, 1925, in Exira, and died May 11, 2020 at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon, at the age of 94 years, 10 months, and 19 days.

Mildred attended rural school Oakfield #1 and later graduated from the Exira High School with the Class of 1942. She then took Normal Training for teachers and taught country school at Oakfield #1 and Sharon #7 for a short time.

On March 10, 1946, she was united in marriage to Norman Stuart Meyer at the Atlantic Church of Christ parsonage. They were blessed with four children: Ronald, Patricia, Barbara, and Chris. She was a homemaker raising her family. In the late 1970s, she was employed at the Exira Elementary School in Exira as a teacher's aide.

Norman and Mildred Meyer farmed 160 acres in Section 36 of Greeley Township in Audubon County along Troublesome Creek. In 1971, Norman and Mildred purchased an additional farm of 60 acres in Section 34 of Greeley Township where they made their home until 1995, when they moved to Exira. Mildred moved from her home in Exira into assisted living at the Exira Care Center in 2017.

Mildred was a member of the Exira Christian Church in Exira and served on the CWF. As a teen she served as the Audubon County 4-H president. An avid gardener, she was a member of the Exira Garden Club. In addition, she was a member of the OAO Club and was in a neighborhood pitch club. After moving to Exira, Mildred volunteered at Exira Congregate Meals.
