Along with other Catholics in Savannah, I joined with Fr Doris and his beloved brother on a trip to Germany, Austria and Switzerland in the 1980's. I sat next to Fr Doris on the bus one afternoon as we headed from one country to another and listened as he shared stories of his family with me -- showing me an old beautiful pocket watch his father, a jewelry I recalled him saying, had carried. What joy his family gave him as he spoke so proudly of his roots! Ironically, my aunt,Helen Marie Kenney, who took me on the trip, also died the same day as Fr. Doris or I might never have noticed the passing of this kind and gentle man. May the family he loved so dearly find comfort that he touched so many -- even along the German country roads.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Doris family. Fr. Doris will be missed by all Catholics in Augusta and throughout Georgia. Fr. Doris was such a blessing to our family during our fourth pregnancy. He was a source of encouragement during a difficult time of bedrest and early delivery. We were so blessed that he was able to also baptise our new son. That was 16 years ago and we cherish the man of God that he was and still is. I know he has met his heavenly reward. May God Bless your family

My Deepest Sympathy to the Doris Family. What a great man and priest Father Doris was, he was such a wonderful person. I will never forget that great smile of his when you would meet him. He came to see me after my husband passed away and then was at the funeral mass and for him it was so hard to walk and he was at the cemetery. I could never thank Father enough, he was a Very Special Priest. I know God was up there waiting with open arms to greet him and now he is still watching over us from above. May God Bless you all and know what a wonderful person you all had in your life.

My family and I have so many fond memories of Fr. Doris, and feel truly blessed for having him touch our lives. I especially enjoyed his sermons, which were never lengthly, but he always seemed to get his point across without saying much. To the family, so many of us share in your loss, and will truly miss Fr. Doris. He was loved by all who knew him. Take comfort in knowing that he is with His Lord.

Father Doris was a wonderful person. Everyone at St Joseph's Church loved and admired him. A humble man, he wasn't one to like alot of attention, even when we celebrated his 50 years of service to God. He is in our prayers.

Father Doris was a gentle, humble person who loved the Lord. I will always remember him saying how blessed I was to have a second chance when I came back to the church after 20 years. He was a blessing, an icon, to Saint Joseph Church and radiated God's unconditional love to all. He will be missed.

I have to tell this story about this beloved man.
I wish I could recall the year but it had to have been in the late 1980’s or early 1990’s. It was raining one Sunday when I went into Mass at St. Joseph’s Church in Augusta. During Mass the rain stopped and the weather cleared, causing me to forget my umbrella under the pew when I left the church that day. On the following Sunday, Fr. Doris said the Mass I attended. When the Mass had ended, Fr. Doris was standing in the foyer greeting people as they exited the church Nave. As I approached Fr. Doris, before I could say a word, he said, “Your umbrella is in that room across the hall (pointing) and I want to thank you for leaving it. It was raining one day this past week and I used it to stay dry while walking to my car. I hope you don’t mind”. I was flabbergasted! I knew my name was nowhere on my umbrella (and I verified that fact after retrieving it) and he had absolutely no way of connecting me to that umbrella. I was so taken aback that I didn’t ask him how he knew, I just told him of course I didn’t mind and was glad it was there when he needed it.
I always deeply admired Fr. Doris. He was truly a man of God. He radiated goodness, pureness, and holiness. God gave humankind a wonderful gift when he gave us Fr. Doris.

Father Doris once concelebrated a Mass at St. Mary On The Hill with a visiting Polish priest. Ever resourceful, he asked me to interpret the Polish homily from the altar. What a special privilege ... what a special friend. Cor ad cor loquitur

As a Cantor at St. Joseph's, Fr. Doris and I would have two Masses together on Sunday. Eventhough I heard the same message twice I never had the feeling the Homily was a repeat.
Father you were a good man.
