FUNERAL HOME

Beverly Bentley Obituary

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Beverly Faythe Bentley, 69, entered peacefully into eternity on December 5th, 2013, in the quiet comfort of her own home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Judson and Beatrice Bentley, her sister and brother in law, Jewell B. and Freddie J. Childress, her sister in law Clemmie S. Bentley, and her cherished nephew and niece, John Judson (Jay) Bentley, and Christi Bea Childress Coleman. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 9th, 2013 at Westover Memorial Park, Augusta with Dr. Rodger Murchison and Dr. Jonathan Reimer officiating. Beverly was born in Augusta, and was a proud member of the Academy of Richmond County's Class of 1962, where she was an Honor Student, and a varsity cheerleader. She spent one semester at the University of Georgia, scoring a perfect 4.0, making the Dean's List, then promptly deciding to withdraw, to get married and start a family. In June of 1963 she married Bob Rhodes, and in 1965 welcomed her first son into the world. She spent the next few years laying the foundation of an amazing business career that only just recently ended with her retirement. Among several noteworthy accomplishments, she was the founding manager of Manpower Temporary Services in Augusta, but Beverly spent the final and happiest years of her professional life working as the Office Manager of the Golf Course Maintenance Department at The Augusta Country Club. Throughout her life, Beverly was actively involved in local politics, including serving on the Executive Board of the Richmond County Republican Party, and as a Republican representative on the Richmond County Board of Elections. She was involved with a number of civic organizations, including the Augusta Junior Woman's Club, and as a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Augusta, she served several years as the director of the ActTeens program. As important as her career and civic duties were, she took the most pride and pure joy from the love and nurturing she gave to her family. Neither God nor man have given us the words to adequately describe her devotion to her loved ones, but it is our duty to try: Beloved Mother, Cherished Grandmother, Faithful Daughter, Devoted Sister, Awesome Aunt, Amazing Friend. Beverly leaves behind two sons and their wives, Robert Austin Rhodes and Barbara Guillebeau Rhodes, and Bentley Zebulon Rhodes and Kirsten Smith Rhodes. Three grandchildren, Christine Baxter Rhodes, Arabella Swan Rhodes, and Robert Guillebeau Rhodes. Two siblings, brother J. Terry Bentley, and his wife Jerrie, and sister Bonnie Bentley Perry, and her husband Steve. Eight beloved nieces and nephews, Dean B. Childress (Margaret), Carolyn B. Cannon (Chris), Leigh P. Kosobucki (Dan), Beverly P. Wilson (Kent), Kellett A. Bentley, Marcy R. Ivey (Jesse), Kristy R. Dorminy (Josh), Cacy R. Berry (Brian), and a host of great nieces and nephews, who brought her no end of delight and much pride. Also surviving are her adopted son and wonderful boss, Greg J. Burleson, and her extended family of friends and colleagues at ACC. If Beverly Bentley loved you, you were loved well. If she considered you a friend, you were a friend for life. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Beverly's honor to one of her favorite charities, Storyland Theatre, P.O. Box 14875, Augusta, GA, 30919. Family visitation will be this evening from 6 - 8pm at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors, 214 Davis Rd., Augusta, GA 30907 (706) 364-8484. Please sign the guestbook at www.thomaspoteet.com

Did not realize it until I read it. This woman gave me my first job ever. I was 16 with no experience. It was assembling metal shelving at the hospital. Thank you for helping me get a start in the work force back in 1979. May your family find peace and closure in the coming days and weeks.

The Academy of Richmond County class of '62 has suffered a very painful & personal loss.Yes, Beverly Bentley was a proud member of the class of '62, but most importantly she was an integral part of our lives.I wish she could read the outpouring of love i received today after having the very difficult task of alerting our classmates and friends. So many of us have known Beverly from grammar school. We are family. The last time Beverly & I spoke I told her how much she was missed and loved by her friends. If you knew Beverly, she was good at 'playing things off'.I was determined she accept what was said. After quite a bit of convincing, Bev reluctantly, acquiesced. Beverly was a very HUMBLE soul. I loved that about her. We ended our conversation with "I LOVE YOU" to one another...and for that, I will be forever grateful.

Family and friends, I am so sorry for your loss. We lived a block from one another as elementary age girls. Her parents were kind role models. My happiest days were on Beverly's bicycle which I bought for $12 paying it off at 50 cents a week. May Beverly's memory be a blessing.

Our paths first crossed in 1966. I trained for your job at Georgia Pacific. Later on, you trained for my job at Augusta Country Club. Then our paths further crossed when we were both managers of temporary employment agencies. Even though I moved from Augusta some 3 years ago, you.always were a dear and sweet friend. I truly expect to see you again at our new addresses where we can revive old memories. What a wonderful and awesome Savior we have to allow us to resume our friendship!
