A.L. was my mentor and uncle but more like another father. He was present at my birth (1934) He was my teacher as he was to thousands of other boys and girls, I will miss him greatly and pray for Doris, Carolyn, and Janice and the grandchildren. He was far more than a baseball coach and manager. Jesus was a teacher and so was AL Williams, JR. signed nrphew Bill Hitt

Coach Williams one of the best men I have ever known. I look back at my years at Richmond Academy and think of him and how in my teenage years I must have really tried his patience. He was always understanding and helpful when ever I did something stupid which was very frequent. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and if I can do anything to help you in this time of grief please let me know.

Dear Williams Family,
I was sadden to hear of Coach's passing yesterday. He was a wonderful God fearing man. A true Christian. When my family and I came back to Crawford Avenue Baptist Church, he greeted me with open arms and a smile. He made every one feel special and loved. I remember on Sunday mornings he would give me a hug and tell me he loved me (even though he would call me by my sister's name), it meant the world to me. Even after Coach's eye sight got worse he would always recognize me by my perfume and call me "His Girl". I know he is at rest and with His Lord and Savior. God Bless you all during this time. Find comfort in The Lord and one another.

Coach Williams was my Tenth Grade History teacher--back in '58, and I adored him. His big smile--everyday--was my favorite memory along with his kindness. He warmed my heart and soul. About a year ago, I was in town for the Reunion, and I telephoned him. I was so happy to hear his voice and to tell him how much he meant to me and continues to mean to me. He seemed so happy to hear from me. I'm not sure if he remembered me-Peggy Roney, but he knew I was yet another devoted student of his. I love Coach Williams. He was a real gift in my life. Mrs. Williams, I can only imagine how much you will miss him, that wonderful man.

I wondered why Mr Williams showed us so many old black and white World War II films in his geography class in the early '60s. Now I know. He knew how important that time was. I wanted to try out for his baseball team but my conduct prevented it. I'll never forget the valuable influence he had on my life. Class of 1962

We have lost yet another member of the "Greatest Generation." To know Coach WIlliams was to love him. Not only was he a great Coach, teacher , mentor and Shining example for young people, he was a lifelong friend of our family. He and my Dad grew up together and remained friends for all of their lives. When I think of my years as a student at Richmond Academy, I cannot help but think of this sweet and wonderful man who loved young people, and encouraged us to always strive to be the best that we could be. He fought the good fight with his health over the past years, and now he can rest. We will miss you Coach, but know that you are now in Heaven. I will never forget the things you taught us. God bless Ms. Doris, Carolyn, Janice and family.

What a class act...a fine Southern gentleman. Being around him made you feel like a better person. He was the school principal during my time at ARC, from 1976-79. He just seemed to take everything in stride, a very even tempered man. Our loss is certainly heaven's gain.....

Coach A. L. Williams died last night at age 91. He was 91 years old, a Christian, baseball coach, teacher, principal and an extradinary man. He loved his God, his family and was a giving person to everyone. I had the privilege (like so many others) of having had Coach William as a teacher, principal, and friend. Wish there could be more A. L. Willaims, the world would be a greater place.
