Elizabeth Haskell Obituary

EVANS, Ga. - Mrs. Elizabeth (Bettee) Jones Haskell, age 96, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Brandon Wilde in Evans, Georgia. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Sunday May 11th at 1 pm. Interment will be at a later date at Pineview Cemetery in North Augusta, South Carolina. She was a former teacher at Tubman High School and was a native of Augusta, Georgia, residing at Belvedere Farms, North Augusta, South Carolina for a number of years. In 1994 she moved to Brandon Wilde with her husband, the late Alexander Cheves Haskell, Jr. Mrs. Haskell was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Marine Corp as a Captain. She was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, the Martintown Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution, the Nancy Carson Library Foundation, the Junior League of America, Historical Augusta, Richmond County Historical Society, and several other historical organizations. She had served for many years on the Aiken County Historical Commission. She was an active member of St. Paul's Church where she had been president of the Women of the Church, St. Cecilia Guild, and member of the Altar Guild. She was also a member of the Town and Country Garden Club. She is survived by one son, Alexander "Sandy" C. Haskell III and his wife Joyce of Belvedere Farms, North Augusta, SC and three granddaughters: Jennie Elizabeth and her husband Jason Jeffcoat of Olympia, WA, Connie Guion Haskell of Columbia, SC, and Alexandra Cheves Haskell of New York City, NY and two great-grandchildren. In addition, her husband had two daughters, Alice Haskell Sanders of Beech Island, SC and Ann Willis Haskell of Charlotte, NC. She is survived by five step-grandchildren and five great step-children. She is also survived by her nephew John F. Byrd and his wife Ann of Edgefield, SC and her niece Elizabeth Byrd of Edgefield, SC, a great nephew and his family. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church Children's Ministry Center Building Fund, 605 Reynolds Street, Augusta, Georgia 30901.
