Frank Capers Obituary

Entered into rest Monday, January 14, 2019, at his residence, Mr. Frank W. Capers, Jr., 96, beloved husband of 62 years to Martha S. Capers.

A lifelong resident of Augusta, Frank was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County and earned a Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctorate from the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity. Frank was a WWII veteran of United States 8th Airforce stationed in London, England. Professionally, Frank owned and operated Capers & Byrd Insurance Adjusters. He was a charter member of both Richmond Associates & Sand Hills Investment Clubs. He was an active member of Downtown Kiwanis Club for over 60 years where he served as secretary and president. Frank was honored with the George F. Hixson Fellowship award for his service and was affectionately known as "Mr. Kiwanis." He was an avid golfer and member of the Augusta Country Club.

Frank grew up attending Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church. During the 1950's as West Augusta's population grew, he and Martha with several other families became charter members of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Later, he returned to his home church of Reid Memorial. Frank was a faithful member serving as an Elder and Deacon in both churches.

Family members, in addition to his wife, include his children: Sallie Capers Metzel (Al); Frank W. Capers, III (Sharon); the late Lisa Capers Sheetz; Rutledge Mann Capers (Shari); 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Margaret Sherman Capers and his brother, the late John D. "Jack" Capers.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 19, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church with Dr. Matt Rich officiating. Family will receive friends at the church, following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, 2261 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30904 or to Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, 733 Third Avenue, Suite 510, New York, NY 10017.
