Gregory Smoot Obituary
Augusta, Georgia—Augusta,Ga. Mr.Gregory Smoot entered into rest on Friday, March 19, 2021. Gregory was born on January 31, 1967 to Norman P. Smoot Sr. And the late Elizabeth Smoot. Gregory was a graduate of T.W.Josey High School class of 85. Survivors are his father Norman P. Smoot Sr., sisters Donna R.Plyler(Savannah, Ga.), Sandra D. Smoot, Cynthia ( Ralph) Hamilton,Vivian (Benjamin) Ross(Augusta, Ga)and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles & friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Elizabeth Smoot, his brother Norman P. Smoot Jr., his nephew Donte R. Safford and his brother in law James Plyler. There will be a celebration of life memorial service and a balloon release held on Friday, March 26, 2021 at Henry Brigham Community Center. This is located at 2463 Golden Camp Rd. Services will begin at 2:30 pm. Words of comfort will be provided by Rev. James A. Hogan.

I personally did not know Greg but from going to josey and remembering all the good things that were said of Greg, he must have been brought up by some wonderful parents with great hearts. I do feel for his family as you all go through this loss especially during this crazy time with covid, but I have one thing I can tell you from my experience with dying. Greg is now somewhere where he is feeling nothing but love. It is really, really, heaven. So try to remind yourself of this when hurting. Plus even though he may have left you from that body, his soul is still watching over you.

Smoot family:
We go way back since my family and I moved into the Laurel Hills neighborhood from Wrens. I was in the 4th grade with Smoot as my sisters attended Butler with a couple of you. "Smoot", Vivian and I walked to Wheeless Rd School together, then Smoot & I rode the school bus together to Murphy & Josey, later played recreation then high school sports together. Other memories too many to post here :-)
Be encouraged that he's no longer suffering, you all did you very best and all you could for him, and although its painful to accept at times like these, God's will is best. Praying for courage & a sense of peace with this new chapter in you all's lives.
My family, and the TW Josey Class of '85 are at your beckoning call. We'll always love "SMOOT" and you all as well. God loves you and so do we.
