Harriet Memel Obituary

GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Harriet Pund Hudson Memel died July 14, 2013 in Gainesville, Georgia. She would have been 89 on August 24, 2013. Harriet was a native of Augusta, Georgia and lived the majority of her life in Augusta. She was a lifelong member of The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. She served her community in many ways. She was a Red Cross swim instructor, volunteer/board member of the YWCA, volunteer at the Soup Kitchen, and member of the altar guild. She also served as a volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital, Doctors Hospital and volunteer/board member at University Hospital for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Scott Memel; her parents, Harriet (Hattie) and Harry Pund and a brother, Harry C. Pund, Jr. Survivors include two brothers, Edgar R. Pund and wife Anne of Appling, GA; T. Irvin Pund and wife Connie of Evans, GA; five children; Anne Hudson Short and husband, Michael of Demorest, GA; Harriet Pacheco-Hudson and husband Rene' Pacheco-Arana of W. Nyack, NY; Perry B. Hudson, Jr. and wife, Frances of Kill Devil Hills, NC; John R. Hudson IV and wife Cherri of Alabaster, Ala.; and Denise Memel Callender of Cary, NC; seven granddaughters and nine great grandchildren. Contributions may be made to: The Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 825 Greene St., Augusta, GA 30901-2233 or Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Inc., 2150 Limestone Parkway, Suite 222, Gainesville, GA 30501. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home (706-778-8668) of Cornelia is in charge of arrangements.
