James Goka Obituary

James A. Goka, 66, of Midland, died early Tuesday morning, June 13, 2006, at his residence.

He was born July 30, 1939, in Caro, son of the late George and Fedora (Metevia) Goka. He graduated from Cass City High School, attended Delta College and served with the U.S. Army. He was married to Carol Allen May 14, 1988, in Saginaw. She survives him. James was employed by U.S. Graphite in Saginaw for over 40 years and later was employed by the CME Corporation in Mount Pleasant until his illness. He enjoyed camping with his wife and friends, gardening, his flowers and working outdoors around his home.

Surviving besides his wife are his children and their spouses, James E. and Kris Goka of Reese, Douglas M. and Anna Goka of Hemlock, Kelly Ann and Richard McManus of Chevy Chase, Md., and Sarah L. and Kevin Brabant of St. Charles; two stepsons, Anthony P. Gonda of Baltimore, Md., and Loren T. Gonda of Vassar; 14 grandchildren; and two brothers, one sister and their spouses, Edward and Judith Goka of Naples, Fla., Lawrence and Fran Goka of Owosso and Marie and Dave Meiser of Curran. Also surviving is his mother-in-law Beatrice Allen; and his constant companion "Cooter".

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2006, from the Midland Christian Church. Pastor Gary Cech will officiate, with burial to follow in the Lee Township Cemetery. James's family will receive friends at the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Home, 1200 W. Wheeler St., Midland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services.
