Janet Usry Obituary

ROSWELL, Ga. - Janet Johnson Usry passed away on January 10, 2015. Janet Johnson Usry was born on September 6, 1931 in Garfield, GA, to the late Nancy Lee and Daniel Crock Johnson. The family moved to Augusta when Mrs. Usry was a young child, where she graduated from Tubman High School. She was married to Robert Owens Usry on May 19, 1951 and gave birth to her only child, Debra, in May of 1952. Two years later, the family moved to Birmingham, AL. During the 53 years that Mrs. Usry spent in Birmingham, she was an active member of Woodlawn Baptist, Huffman Baptist and later, Meadow Brook Baptist. She was also active in various community activities: PTA, Garden Clubs and was an avid bridge player. Mrs. Usry enjoyed traveling with her husband. They traveled extensively after Mr. Usry's retirement from Southern Company in 1992. She also loved spending time at the beach with her grandchildren. After her husband's death in 2006, Mrs. Usry moved to Roswell, GA to live with her daughter and son-in-law. During this time, she was an active member of Johnson Ferry Baptist and continued to love to play bridge. Mrs. Usry is survived by her daughter, Debra Turner and son-in-law, Bob Turner; grandson, Matt Turner and his wife, Shannon; great-grandson, Anderson Turner; great-granddaughter, Sutton Turner; grandson, Michael Turner; great-granddaughter, Annabel Turner. She is also survived by two brothers and their families, Gene Johnson and his wife, Elaine; niece, Jennifer Price and her husband, Shane; great-niece, Ella Prince; brother, Ray Johnson and his wife, Linda; nephew, Chris Johnson and his wife, Cady; great-niece, Madison Johnson; great-nephew, Charlie Johnson. Mrs. Usry was a loving Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother who always showed a strong faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. She was a caring friend to all that knew her. The family will receive friends at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Home, 214 Davis Road, Augusta, GA, on Wednesday, January 14 from 12:30pm to 1:30pm followed by graveside services at 2:00pm at Hillcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations can be made to Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, 955 Johnson Ferry Road, Marietta, GA 30068.

Bob and Janet were members of the Senior Adult Choir at Meadow Brook Baptist and I was honored to be their director. I remember them very fondly and am thankful for the opportunity to have known them. May God bless your family and give you peace.
