Mrs. Sayer was my seventh grade teacher at Monte Sano in 1971. She was such an awesome teacher. Whenever I run into any of my classmates from that time - we always talk about her. She was an excellent teacher - we learned so much from her - and not just academics. She let us be individuals and she encouraged independent thought. She also truly loved us and it showed - we felt it. Her love of her family, her community, her profession and her Lord were apparent even to a twelve year old. What a classly lady. I so loved her sense of humor. Oh how we laughed that year! I remember thinking I would never be old enough to go to seventh grade because I wanted so badly to go to class in the basement with Mrs. Sayer and Mrs. Lester. In hindsight, it was even more of a big deal than I thought then. I treasure those days, and am so grateful to have been able to spend 9 months of my life with Mrs. Sayer in that wonderful school. I know she made a lasting impression on so many young people.

I recently lost my Dad, so I know the pain you all are feeling. My heart aches for you all - but also rejoices in the assurance that Mrs. Sayer is resting safe and sound in heaven above. I know that there has to be even more joy & laughter in heaven since her arrival. You will all be in my thoughts and my prayers. I thank the Lord for having had the priviledge of being Mrs. Sayer's student.

Mrs. Sayer was my teacher in the 60's at Monte Sano!

I will never forget her. Her picture was just as I remembered her!

As I think of her, she was a great teacher. She and Mrs. Lester! They prepared us for Junior High!!

May the Lord Bless you and give you peace and joy as you celebrate and mourn her loss.

May the Lord blanket you in His grace as you go through this difficult time. Mrs. Joanne helped so much with the reception at my wedding. She also made several outfits for me during my first pregnancy. She was always ready to help in any way that she could. She was a very giving person and surely will be missed. But what a wonderful time she must be having with the Lord! May you find comfort in knowing that she is where she longed to be.

In Christ,

Our deepest sympathy goes out to your family in your great loss. Joan taught two of my children, John and Richard Mixon, in seventh grade at Monte Sano. She was such a dedicated teacher, and our family loved her very much. I was the widow of Judge Oliver K. Mixon and married Henry D. Wofford, Sr. of Johnston, SC ten and a half years ago.

To the Sayer Family,

The Poole Family would like to extend our sympathy to you during this sad time. My mother, Sarah Poole, waited on Joan for years at Belk's Department Store. She also taught four out of the five Poole Children at Monte Sano Elementary School. All of you are in our prayers.

Dear Emory and family,

My heart aches for your family. Joan was the loving center of your family. Her kindness and strength will always be remembered, and missed. I was blessed to have known her as a neighbor, friend and sister in Christ. She loved you all so very much and always spoke so highly of each of you. You made her proud. Words are little consolation, but I hope her everlasting love, happy memories, your love for each other and the love and prayers from your friends will help you during the difficult days ahead. Please know you all are in my prayers.

Sincerely, Debra Chavous
