Peggy Hancock Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Chapel - Covington on Mar. 30, 2026.
Mrs. Peggy McIntosh Hancock, age 85, of Covington, Georgia, passed away on March 29, 2026. She was born on December 11, 1940, in Covington, and she lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her students, her church, and all who were blessed to know her.
Peggy was the daughter of the late Parks "Pete" and Lottie McIntosh. She grew up in Covington and graduated from Newton County High School, where she began building the foundation for a life of learning and service. She continued her education at Reinhardt College, the University of Georgia, and Georgia State University, ultimately receiving her Master's Degree in Education. Her commitment to education reflected the thoughtful and intelligent nature that guided her throughout her life.
For many years, Peggy served as a school teacher in DeKalb County, where she touched countless young lives with patience, kindness, and dedication. She retired from Allgood Elementary School after a long and meaningful career in the classroom. Her students and colleagues knew her as a loving teacher who cared deeply about helping children grow, learn, and succeed. She took great pride in her work and found purpose in encouraging others to reach their potential.
Peggy was also a longtime member of Alcovy United Methodist Church, where her faith was an important part of her life. She valued the fellowship of her church family and lived her beliefs through her gentle spirit and compassionate heart. She loved to travel and enjoyed the experiences, memories, and friendships that came with seeing new places and spending time with those she loved.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Hancock. She is survived by her sons, Travis Hancock and his wife Dawn, and Kevin Hancock; her grandson, Blake Hancock; her great-grandson, Grady Hancock; and her brothers, Larry McIntosh and his wife Barbara, Kenneth McIntosh and his wife Diane, and Jerry McIntosh. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends who will cherish her memory and the many ways she enriched their lives.
Peggy will be remembered as a thoughtful, intelligent, and loving woman whose presence brought comfort and grace to those around her. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved, the students she taught, the friendships she nurtured, and the faith she carried throughout her life. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hancock will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at the Chapel of J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home with Reverend Debbie Giles officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Wednesday prior to the service.
