Jerry Thomas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by J.C. Harwell and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Chapel - Covington on Mar. 30, 2026.
Mr. Jerry Ryman Thomas passed away on March 25, 2026, at the age of 83, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, talent, devotion, and love that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Jerry was born on April 30, 1942, and he lived a life marked by strength, skill, and quiet determination. He served his country in the United States Army for three years, a chapter of his life that reflected his sense of duty and discipline. After his military service, he built a life centered around family, craftsmanship, and the satisfaction of doing work well.

Those who knew Jerry will remember him as a man who could do just about anything. He was gifted with his hands and had a natural talent for drawing, painting, woodwork, and knife making. His creativity and ability were evident in everything he created, and he was admired for the care and skill he brought to his work. He had a sharp mind, a steady hand, and a resourceful spirit that made him a trusted and respected presence in the lives of those around him.

Jerry also had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing and hunting, and he found joy in spending time in nature. In his younger years, he enjoyed drag racing cars, and he also painted dirt track cars back in the day, combining his love of automobiles with his artistic talent.

Above all else, Jerry was a family man. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Geraldine Thomas, whose companionship and love were central to his life. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Mildred Thomas, and his brother, Barry Thomas. Their memories remained a part of him throughout his life, and he carried his love for them with him always.

He is survived by his son, Allen Thomas and his wife Regina, and his granddaughter, Madeleine Thomas, who brought him great pride and joy. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Anderson and her husband John. In addition, Jerry leaves behind many very close family members who held a special place in his heart, including Tina McCollum and Lynn, Johnny Anderson and Lisa, Lynsi Kofahl and Mike, Kaleb Carreker, Cole Carreker, Chloe Kofahl, Michael Kofahl, Thomas Pye, Olivia Pye, Tammie Lamb and James, Eric Holcomb, Tara Holcomb, Dillion Lamb, Mellisa Sanders Miche, Cale Parker, Caylee Parker, Ricky Sanders and Michelle, Ethan Sanders, Sarah Sanders Ogle and David, Henry Ogle, Hadley Ogle, Linda Sanders, Chris Sanders, Matt Sanders, and Carrie Sanders. His extended family, loved ones, and many close friends that he held close to his heart will cherish his memory and the many ways he touched their lives.

The family will have a memorial service for Jerry at a later date.
