Michael Dainer Obituary
EVANS, Ga. - Michael Joseph Dainer passed away to join his beloved wife Julia on April 15, 2009 at Brandon Wilde, with family members at his side. A memorial service will be held at Brandon Wilde, 4275 Owens Rd. Evans, GA 30809 on Monday, April 20, 2009 at 7:00 PM. The third of nine children, Michael Joseph Dainer was born on October 9, 1915 in Newark New Jersey. He received his bachelor's degree in education from Newark State Teachers College (now Kean University) and his master's degree from Seton Hall University. In 1956, Columbia University in New York awarded him a Teachers College Professional Diploma. He taught in the Newark, New Jersey, Public Schools and rose through the ranks as Vice Principal and Principal, during which time, he assumed a special assignment dealing with labor relations. He entered the United States Army in 1942 and completed the Army Air Forces Officer Candidate School the following year. Released from active duty at the conclusion of World War II, he continued service as a Reserve Officer in the United States Air Force and returned to active duty temporarily during the Korean Campaign. He served in positions primarily in the fields of industrial engineering, surveys, contract negotiations and production supervision, received advanced training at the United States Army Logistics Management Center at Fort Lee, Virginia and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel prior to his retirement after 28 and a half years of service. Following retirement, he and his wife, Julia, settled in southern Florida, traveled extensively and toured the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia. They particularly enjoyed attending Elderhostels throughout the United States, concerts, plays and operas. In January 2008, Michael and Julia moved to Columbia County. After more than 70 years of marriage Julia passed away in September 2008. He is survived by three sons: Dr. Michael Jeffrey Dainer of El Cajon, California, Dr. Paul M. Dainer of Evans, Georgia, and Dr. Roger D. Dainer of Pleasanton, California; five grandchildren; Dr. Kimberly A. Davis of San Diego, California, Dr. Hugh M. Dainer of Bethesda, Maryland, Ms. Erin M. and Caroline M. Dainer of Evans Georgia, and Ms. Jennifer Dainer of Pleasonton, California; and six great grandchildren.
